If you come down to Castle Drogo on Thursday 17 October you’re in for a big surprise- you’ll find children doing jobs and taking on roles that adults usually do.

Takeover Day is when museums, galleries, historic homes, archives and heritage sites across England are taken over by children and young people. Supported by Arts Council England funding, charity Kids in Museums launched Takeover Day in 2010 to help historic institutions give children meaningful roles in their organisations. Last year, over 160 heritage organisations and 5,500 young people took part.

Exeter Night Shelter opens up for winter

Exeter’s night shelter has opened up for the winter, allowing rough sleepers to come inside on some of the coldest and roughest nights.

In March the City Council announced that it had secured £444,000 from the government to help run a number of new services for people who are rough sleeping including the facility over the coming winter.

Last winter the shelter – dubbed The Junction - supported 193 rough sleepers, providing a total of 3,985 bed nights.

Since Roman times, Exeter has been an important centre for trade and that is still the case. As one of just two urban centres in the county it has a strong local base, able to attract both workers and consumers from a considerable area beyond its borders, while the fact that it’s within easy commuting distance of London (with much lower overheads) makes it an attractive site for large companies. It is its small businesses, however, which have really driven it forward in recent years, and which, together with its capacity for innovation, make the future look bright for the city.

Adoption agencies in Devon are working together this National Adoption Week (14-20 October) to appeal for potential adopters to come forward. This comes as numbers of adopters drop to an all-time low in the county and the number of children waiting continues to grow.

Regional Adoption Agency, Adopt South West, and independent adoption charity Families for Children are specifically looking for adopters who will consider adopting a sibling group. If adoptive families cannot be found soon then it is likely that these brothers and sisters will be separated.

What to know before investing in real estate

Cash on cash return is one of the things which you will need to understand before you decide whether to invest in a certain property or not. It is a property valuation formula which you will use to calculate the cash invested versus the cash earned.
