Independence Day is one of the most important national holidays in the US calendar and is celebrated every year on 4 July and particularly eventful if you’re deciding to travel to the US around that time.

The date is very symbolic for all Americans since it represents the official birth of the country. It all started on 2 July 1776, when a gathering named the “congress” covertly cast a ballot for gaining independence from the United Kingdom.

A major new UK telecommunications company bringing ultrafast full fibre optic broadband to towns and rural communities in the South West of England has launched.

WESC Foundation is inviting staff at businesses around Exeter to gather their cleverest colleagues together for a charity pub quiz to help raise funds for blind and partially-sighted children and young adults.

Sponsored by LV=, the Exeter-based charity is hosting another fundraising quiz at its Topsham Road campus on Thursday 17th October 2019 at 7pm. WESC Foundation supports children and young adults with visual impairment. All the young people also contend with other additional needs such as autism, cerebral palsy and, sadly, life limiting illnesses too.

A major South West conservation charity has announced its patrons. Both are star names regionally and nationally.

Naturalist Nick Baker and broadcaster Judi Spiers have been unveiled as patrons of Wild Planet Trust, the charity that runs Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts in Torquay and Newquay Zoo in Cornwall.

Finalists announced for 2019 South West Chef of the Year

The finalists for this year’s South West Chef of the Year competition have been chosen and now face the final round where they will be cooking for judges on the 22nd October at Exeter College.

The finalists in the Professional and Young Professional categories will cook a three-course menu using ingredients supplied by the competition’s sponsors.
