Permanent Regulation on CFDs Hit the UK in August

Large swings and robust volatility have generated enough concern that UK regulators will be establishing permanent rules which will be enforced in the UK beginning August 1, 2019. Many of these rules have been in effect as temporary regulations allowing brokers and clients to test drive the new rules. UK regulators believe that these new restrictions will greatly reduce large losses that have been associated with some of the highly leveraged financial products.

RSPCA braced for a ‘hectic hedgehog’ month as calls spike in July

July looks set to be ‘hectic hedgehog’ month for the RSPCA after calls about the prickly creatures peaked during this time last year.

From a total of 10,644 calls about hedgehogs made to the RSPCA’s national helpline throughout 2018, the number of calls spiked in July at 1867. Calls from the South West region1 totalled 10002 in 2018, 156 of which were made in July.

Across 2018, an average of 5.7 hedgehogs per day were admitted to one of the charity’s four specialist wildlife centres, but in the peak month of July, this rose to an average of 12.4 per day or one every two...

Libraries across Devon and Torbay are calling for children to sign up to the Space Chase mission to read six books this summer as part of the 2019 Summer Reading Challenge.

Anyone aged 4-11 is invited to take part in this out-of-this-world adventure by picking up a mission folder from their local library, choosing two books on each visit to the library throughout the summer and collecting stickers and rewards along the way as they rocket their way towards the finish line to claim a special medal.

Taking place on Saturday 27 July 2019 between 9am and 4pm, the event will showcase a comprehensive display of vehicles for disabled people.

Two students from South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton, Devon, have been named as the first recipients of a new award for students who show bravery or go above and beyond to help others and the community.

The Captain and Mrs Jones Cup has been set up after a local man Anthony Jones, bequeathed funds to reward students who have positively contributed through acts of courage. Obese people outnumber smokers two to one in the South West

NEW figures from Cancer Research UK show that people who are obese now outnumber smokers two to one in the South West, as the charity urges Government action to tackle obesity.

While smoking is still the nation’s biggest preventable cause of cancer and carries a much higher risk of the disease than obesity, Cancer Research UK’s analysis also reveals that being overweight or obese trumps smoking as the leading cause of four types of cancer – bowel, kidney, ovarian and liver.

In the South West, three in ten adults are obese.
