25 years of growing success for local family business

Boyces at Manstree, a small family-run business based in Shillingford St George, are delighted to be celebrating their 25th Anniversary this month.

Brothers Tim and Simon Boyce, together with their parents Clive and Susan, took over the fruit farm and vineyard in 1994. Over the years, the family has grown the business substantially, and they now employ a small team to help as the Boyces at Manstree reputation has spread throughout Devon and further afield.

The Donkey Sanctuary has a packed week of fun and activities this May half term, as it continues its Golden Anniversary celebrations.

The Spring Family Dog Show, held on Sunday 26 May, is bound to be popular with families and their canine pals alike. It promises to have something for everyone, including a whole host of activities for the family pooch.

Simon Friend of Red Earth Developments, owner of the landmark redevelopment of The Yealm, knows a thing or two about Wyvern – a winged, two-legged Chimera dragon with a barbed tail. Students reminded to claim their TV Licence refund

Students moving home for the summer are being reminded by TV Licensing that they could be entitled to £50 in the form of a refund.

In 2017, TV Licensing changed the way refunds are calculated to make it easier for customers to apply. This means more students can benefit from a refund as they can now claim for any full months left on their licence.

There were 1,776,540 undergraduate students across the UK in 2017/18 according to the Higher Education Statistics Agency.

WW2 hero’s medals to go under the hammer

An important group of WW2 RAF medals and associated log books, various documents, uniforms and photographs are to be auctioned at Chilcotts in Honiton.

The medals, a Distinguished Service Order, Distinguished Flying Cross and Bar and Air Force Cross group of eight were awarded to Peter Reginald Casement who flew with both Bomber Command and Coastal Command. The medal group includes a ‘Mentioned in Dispatches’ oak-leaf and campaign clasps for France and Germany, Malaya and Palestine 1946-48 along with the set of miniatures and three original medal boxes.
