Exeter Phoenix is now inviting submissions for one of the South West’s most vibrant film festivals, Two Short Nights. Festival organizers are inviting submissions from filmmakers based in the UK and beyond. Cadet Corporal William Darnbrough of Royal Marine Cadets, Lympstone (RMVCC) has beaten 20,000 cadets around the country to be one of only 11 appointed as First Sea Lord cadet for 2018!

Race against time to save historic croquet pavilion from demolition

A Victorian croquet pavilion that has stood for over 120 years could be demolished in less than a fortnight unless the owners are persuaded to think again.

The Croquet Club at Budleigh Salterton has informed the council of their intention to demolish the timber-framed building as a recent surveyor’s report found it to be structurally unsound. The survey found structural flaws in the 19th century pavilion, but the club’s management committee has reportedly declined the offer of a second expert opinion, insisting it would be impossible to get realistic estimates to repair it....

The South West housing market has started the new year off in a similar fashion to the closing stages of 2017, according to the January 2018 RICS UK Residential Market Survey. In January, new buyer enquiries, instructions and sales all continued to drift lower, while three-month expectations point to an modest picture in the coming months. Plymouth Hospitals Trust has been praised by the National Deaf Children’s Society after it received a prestigious accreditation for its children and adult audiology services last week.

This means that all children’s audiology services across Devon and Cornwall are now accredited, and are among the best services in the country for deaf children and their families. Exeter singing group for people with dementia celebrates 5th birthday

Alzheimer’s Society’s Exeter Singing for the Brain group recently celebrated its 5th birthday.

The group celebrated this milestone with a birthday cake and a joyful rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ led by singing leader Jacky Forbes.

The group, for people with dementia and carers, meets regularly on the first and third Thursday afternoon of every month at St James’ Church Hall in Exeter.
