Fireworks, dancing and music on campus to mark Chinese New Year

Thousands of people will mark Chinese New Year at the University of Exeter with fireworks, dancing and dragons.

Stalls illustrating Chinese traditions and crafts, delicious Chinese cuisine, martial arts demonstrations and performances will be on offer at the Streatham campus for the family-friendly celebrations on Sunday, March 4.

More than 2,500 people are expected to attend the annual event, in the Forum building, which ends with a spectacular firework display at the XFI Building at 6:30pm.

Exeter College students have won the prestigious Bristol Grammar School Model United Nations (MUN) best delegation title for the fourth year in a row, cementing the college’s reputation as one of the leading debating and diplomacy team in the South West.

More than 150 students representing a range of schools took part in the 10th annual Model United Nations (MUN) Conference, held at Bristol Grammar School, on Sunday, 4th Feb.

Exeter alumni pass 60,000-hour volunteering target

Former students have spent more than 60,000 hours volunteering at the University of Exeter – beating a target with two years to spare.

The Making the Exceptional Happen campaign started in 2012 and aimed to encourage 60,000 alumni volunteering hours by 2020.

Since the start of the campaign, alumni volunteers have given more than 700 careers talks (benefiting more than 21,000 students), answered more than 1,200 student careers questions by email and provided more than 1,500 one-on-one mentoring partnerships lasting 6-12 months each.

Tickets for the 2018 Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink have been released and are now available from the festival website.

For the second year, 2018 sees the festival take place over the early May Bank Holiday weekend, from Saturday 5th May to Monday 7st May, running for all three days of the Bank Holiday.

Exeter research lab opens doors to Cornish boy with diabetes

A research lab at Exeter Medical School opened its doors to an 11-year-old boy who has Type 1 diabetes so that he could learn about groundbreaking research into his condition. Daniel Lindley and his mum Karen from Lostwithiel in Cornwall joined a tour of the Islet Cell Biology lab to meet Professor Noel Morgan and other diabetes researchers who are funded by Diabetes UK. City take narrow victory back to Devon

A Jayden Stockley penalty was the difference as Exeter City beat Grimsby Town 1-0 in Sky Bet League Two.

In a tight affair at Blundell Park, the Grecians battled for a narrow victory after being awarded a first half penalty when Jake Taylor was fouled in the Town box which the City number 11 converted well.
