Folk band hopes werewolf songs will be a howling success…

A concert of songs about legendary tales of English werewolves is being taken on tour by South West-based folk act the Wren Band.

The band – formed specially by the eight musicians of Wren Music to mark the folk music charity’s 30th anniversary – is taking the show on tour this summer and is hoping the popularity of all things werewolf and vampire will bring a new audience to traditional English folk music.

The concert, which premieres at Exeter Northcott Theatre on 2 June, features 21 songs and two stories – all about legendary creatures.

“It’s a very werewolf and...

Chordial's cover songs draw from folk, blues, rock, country & jazz... a real melting-pot.

Come along and join us for what promises to be a great lunchtime gig, while relaxing...

Chiefs make headlines for their performance as silence is observed despite controversy

Off-field politics were duly put to one side and it was the rugby that was on the lips of everyone as they departed Sandy Park late on Saturday evening. Pre-match there had been plenty of debate as to the rights and wrongs of Exeter Chiefs staging a minute’s silence in memory of the late Baroness Thatcher. As it turned out, the mark of respect went off without a hitch and it was the display of Rob Baxter’s side in sinking visiting London Irish that was making the real headlines. The Chiefs kept alive their hopes of competing in next season’s Heineken Cup by producing a fourth Aviva...

Today (April 13) saw St David's churchyard getting a spring clean. Trees were lopped and cut back hard, hedges pruned, grass - and even primroses - strimmed. There were also a number of objects retrieved from the undergrowth, including some night storage heaters, cast iron pipe and a heap of discarded bottles and cans. This outbreak of seasonal community activism was hosted and organised by the Vicar, Revd Canon Tom Honey. "St David's churchyard comes under the care of Exeter City Council, but in a time of constrained budgets there is a limited amount that the Council can do...

Report: AFC Wimbledon 2 Exeter City 2

Two goals on his full debut by Jamie Reid helped Exeter to a 2-2 draw away to AFC Wimbledon in front of a record crowd at Kingsmeadow.

The Grecians twice went ahead through the youngster, but Luke Moore brought the hosts level on both occasions as the game ended all-square.

Reid’s first came deep into the first half as he smashed in from the edge of the area, but Luke Moore had the Dons level with a similar strike early in the second period. It sparked off a feast of goalmouth action as Reid netted another with a shot across the...

Chiefs side to face London Irish named

Rob Baxter wants his Exeter Chiefs side to show the same ambition and hunger they demonstrated 12 months ago in securing a Heineken Cup place to be the key driver for them as they head into the final run-in for this season's Aviva Premiership. With just three top flight fixtures remaining for the Devon club, the battle to get into the top six is set to go right to the wire as the eighth-placed Chiefs look to close in on the likes of Gloucester, Bath and London Wasps, who lie just ahead of them in the all-important, remaining places. The Chiefs - who have won three of their last four...

Not Enough Hours in the Day? Consider Virtual Support

With increasing demands on small to medium size businesses it is no surprise that many company directors and owners find themselves drowning in a sea of paperwork. Compared with large companies, small to medium size businesses usually have far fewer resources to help them with their day to day marketing and advertising needs whilst they comply with new demands on their time, for instance the recently introduced Real Time Information (RTI) introduced by HMRC. It is therefore no surprise that the shape of the workforce is changing dramatically with many companies wising up to the increasing...

Exeter businesses urged to maximise opportunities

Richard Palmer, Managing Director of business training enterprise Estadia is calling on Exeter businesses to maximise the opportunities delivered by the new national focus on the city.

Mr Palmer stated: “The news that IKEA is opening in Exeter is yet another indication of the growing status of the city as a viable location for business that will no doubt act as a further draw for other potential investors. Exeter has had an incredible year of prestigious national awards as well as celebrating the launch of retail giant John Lewis. But existing businesses must focus on preparation...
