Contract parking at St James Park now available

Exeter City’s Football in the Community department is launching a private car parking scheme at St James Park stadium, following the Charitable Trust’s move into the Fountain Centre. There are a limited number of spaces available to contract customers that wish to use the car park on a daily basis at a cost of £60 per month – around £2 per day - and all money raised will be used to support the department’s work in the community, which engages with around 50,000 adults and children a year throughout Exeter and Devon. The car park is well-surfaced, lit, patrolled and open 24 hours a day....

"Send this Idiot the Bedbug letter"

Have you heard the story of the colossal customer-service bungle over the “bedbug letter”? A guest in a hotel finds himself attacked by bedbugs during his stay. He writes an angry letter to the president of the hotel company. Within days, the president sends the guest a heartfelt apology, which reads, in part: “I can assure you that such an event has never occurred before in our hotel. I promise you it will never happen again.” Sounds good, except for one small detail: Included with the apology is the guest’s original letter. Scrawled across the top is the message: “Send this idiot the...

Working from home presents many challenges: What is an acceptable time to get out of bed? Which Australian soap opera should I work my lunch around? Does posting a Facebook status really count as business development? But quite possibly the biggest challenge is what boring clichéd local disc jockey should I tolerate for a couple of hours?

Whether it is the background soundtrack to my working day or the drive time escape, music plays an integral part of not only mine- but most people’s existence. Yes, I enjoy a Radio 1 chart topper as much as the next guy and sure Jeremy Vine’s...

Alcott’s decision to call time on his playing career – which has seen him feature 71 times for the Devon club, scoring ten tries in the process – has been “tough”, but it’s one he knows he has to make with regards to his...

From Saturday 13 April, the free Killerton parkrun event that takes place every Saturday at 9am returns home to its much-loved cross-country course in the parkland of Killerton National Trust estate near Exeter.

Back in February, Killerton’s historic parkland suffered water-logged ground conditions caused by months of persistent wet weather.

The slippery surface forced the popular community running event to temporarily relocate to a drier 5K course in neighbouring Ashclyst Forest.

Throughout this seven week relocation, volunteers and runners maintained their strong...

Now in its 40th year, the awards were part of NaSTA’s annual conference, which also provides a series of workshops run by industry experts during the lead up to the awards ceremony in...

Police Commissioner commits to maintaining officer numbers

As the latest crime figures showed an overall fall of 6.7 % in the force area, Tony Hogg has once again stressed that keeping officer numbers well above 3,000, instead of dropping to a proposed level of 2,810, is key to continuing this welcome downward trend. A meeting this week of the PCC’s scrutiny body, the Police and Crime Panel, overwhelmingly gave support to Mr Hogg’s plan which sets out his policing priorities in tough economic times. Mr Hogg said: “Community involvement and neighbourhood policing are absolutely central to what I want to achieve. If the number of officers had been...
