The Hoarder Next Door , Britain's Biggest Hoarders and other such TV programmes have done much to highlight the growing issue of hoarding in the UK. It is estimated that there are about 3 million sufferers in this country ( www.helpforhoarders.co.uk ). Many stay silent and isolated. In these programmes you will see the only on-screen representation of a professional declutterer.
I have recently established myself as a declutterer and joined the 100 others registered nationally with the Association of Professional Declutterers and Organisers (APDO-UK). Many of us work with hoarders...
The annual trip for the Exeter Exiles - a dedicated group of Exeter City FC supporters who mainly live and work in London - left for the Greek island of Andros on Wednesday evening.
Neil Le Milliere, who was recently crowned NPower Fan of the Year in the Football League Awards, says "We were originally invited over in 2007 to combine a holiday on an idyllic Greek island with a game of football against the locals, and a number of us went over not really knowing what to expect."
There are now about 100 members of the Greek Exeter City FC fan club on the Island of Andros...

Athletes no longer ask whether beetroot juice improves sporting performance - they just want to know how much to drink, and when. A new study - aimed at helping sportsmen and women including footballers, rugby, tennis and hockey players, cyclists and marathon runners - has the answers.
The University of Exeter’s Sport and Health Sciences department has published a new paper in the Journal of Applied Physiology looking at the effects of taking three different doses of beetroot juice on different exercise intensities.
The research team, led by Professor Andy Jones, used Beet-...
On 26 May 2013, a new law comes into affect to protect people living in mobile homes from widespread malpractice by site owners and making it easier to buy or sell a mobile home.
A report commissioned by the Government in 2012 uncovered rogue site owners putting off potential purchasers so they could buy mobile homes on their sites at knock-down prices, replacing them with new ones they could sell on for huge profits.
The new law will take away a site owner's right to approve the buyers of mobile homes, and includes tougher legislation to protect residents. Local...
We learned with deep shock and great sadness of the murder of a young member of the armed forces in Woolwich yesterday afternoon. Such acts of violence and terror have no place in our society. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family.
The attackers linked their actions with the religion of Islam. Statements from major national Muslim bodies have, in the ensuing hours, condemned the act in the strongest terms and stressed its lack of connection to – and complete contradiction of – teachings of Islam. Even so, there have been attacks on two mosques over the course of the...
A German soccer fan, perhaps poking fun at our stereotyping of his nation, recently put a beach towel on a seat at Wembley to reserve his place for the Champions League final. Not sure who he is supporting as both teams come from Germany being Bayern and Dortmund. These two teams rather spoilt things for the pundits who were expecting an “el classico” of a final from the two giants of Spanish football, Real Madrid and Barcelona, who both lost in the semi finals.
It is not just on the football field the Germans are performing well in sports, Michael Jung recently failed by a whisker...
Paignton Zoo’s Great Gorillas Project has brought together two unlikely partners - a top financial management company and a tattoo artist.
Cathedral Financial Management Ltd, of Exeter, has sponsored a Great Gorilla. Their chosen design is by Torbay tattoo artist Danny Kidd. Ironically, the design is called Not so Different.
Neil Gore, Director of Cathedral Financial Management, explained: “We wanted to get involved in The Great Gorillas Project to help support a local charity with a quirky but meaningful conservation project. We reviewed a number of designs and settled on...

The Princesshay Shopping Centre in Exeter has created a rooftop garden paradise for honey bees as part of a new environmental initiative championed and funded by landlord Land Securities. Forming part of a biodiversity strategy, one hive has recently been installed in the rooftop garden with another due to arrive in May and a third later in the year. The aim is to have five hives thriving in their new city location by the end of 2014. Princesshay is the first shopping centre in the Land Securities portfolio to launch a City Bee project.
