Chance for residents to meet Exeter's community police

Police officers from Exeter are holding a ‘meet the team’ event on Saturday 15th December at Bedford Square, Exeter.

Members of the public are invited to come along to meet the team and discuss any policing concerns they have about their local community.

Information received will help them determine the policing priorities for the local area.

Police officers will be on hand to offer crime prevention advice around personal and property security, as well as carry out free property marking for bicycles.

South West TUC calls on NHS pay cartel to disband

The South West TUC has called on the NHS pay cartel to disband after the government rejected plans to introduce regional pay.

Unions are concerned the 19 health trusts in the region who have set up the cartel will ignore yesterday's announcement from Parliament and press ahead with tearing up the national pay agreement, replacing it with worse pay and conditions for NHS staff.

Devon residents saving thousands on their heating oil bills

With colder weather around the corner, Devon residents are saving thousands of pounds on their heating oil bills, thanks to a scheme delivered by the Community Council of Devon.

Using collective buying power, the Devon County Council -supported initiative is ensuring that the scheme’s members are getting the best prices for their fuel.

Its 272 members have bought approximately 264,000 litres of oil this year, paying typically 3 to 6 pence less per litre than the average price, saving them on average £45 per every 1,000 litres of oil. Collectively, they’ve saved over £11,500...

Duchess of Cambridge leaves hospital

Amid much press furore, the Duchess of Cambridge has now left King Edward VII hospital in central London after several days of treatment for acute morning sickness - hyperemesis gravidarum - since Monday.

St James's Palace said in a statement that she was now heading to Kensington Palace for a period of rest.

St James’ Park will be hosting the Exeter City Ladies’ FA Women’s Cup first round proper tie against Brislington on Sunday 9th December with kick-off set for 1pm.

This fixture offers the Grecian girls the chance to progress to the second round for the first time in their history.

They reached the first round last season, only to be defeated away at Swindon. But they have been drawn at home to Somerset County Division One side Brislington – and rather than playing at their usual home in Topsham, the Exeter Ladies have the chance to showcase the women’s game at St James’ Park...

Woman seriously injured in M5 collision

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the M5 at Cullompton yesterday (5 December) which left one woman seriously injured.

At 13.35pm a red Volkswagen Transporter van and a silver Vauxhall Tigra collided on the southbound carriageway of the M5 two miles south of junction 28. The van had been travelling on the northbound carriageway when it struck the central reservation, crossing into the opposite carriageway where it was in collision with the other vehicle. The female driver of the Tigra sustained serious internal injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital...

The next generation of Exeter City footballers and coaches has been given a boost thanks to a three-year sponsorship deal with Ashfords solicitors. The South West-based law firm is sponsoring the Grecians' Football in the Community bus for the next three years. Florence gig-goers frustrated by major traffic snarl up

Tonight the Westpoint Arena, on the outskirts of Exeter, paid host to hugely successful indie-rock band Florence and the Machine, writes Flo Eggins.
