New Bishop of Crediton is announced

The next Anglican Bishop of Crediton, the Diocese of Exeter has announced.

Reverend Nick McKinnel, 58, from the Minster Church of St Andrew in Plymouth will replace the Right Reverend Bob Evens.Bishop Evens, who has served since 2004, will retire at the end of October.

Mr McKinnel will be consecrated as a bishop in Southwark Cathedral, in London, in November.

He said: "I look forward to getting to know the clergy and congregations in this part of the diocese."

Mr McKinnel currently a prebendary at Exeter Cathedral.

More disappointment for fans as City crash out of FA Cup

City made two changes after last week's 3-0 defeat at Cheltenham. Pat Baldwin came in to form a back three alongside Coles and Amankwaah and Alan Gow started in partnership with Jamie Cureton up front. Arron Davies missed out through injury and Jimmy Keohane dropped to the bench. The new 3-5-1-1 formation allowed Scot Bennett to return to midfield.

The home side started with intent and David Healy’s early cross went all the way across the Exeter box. Dominic Poleon had plenty of time at the far post but shot first time and hit the bar.

Baxter praises team after return to winning ways

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter praised his side as they returned to winning ways with an impressive 33-9 victory over Worcester Warriors in the Aviva Premiership.

Having suffered defeats to Leinster and Clermont Auvergne in the Heineken Cup, as well a setback on the road at Bath just seven days earlier, the Chiefs rediscovered their winning formula in style as tries from Gonzalo Camacho, Haydn Thomas and Chris Budgen helped pave the way for Exeter’s fourth league win of the season.

Exeter Swim school make a splash for Exmouth RNLI

Splash Swim school hosted a gala style mini-Olympics on 19 October, raising £145 for Exmouth RNLI. Splash Swim school teachers and parents volunteered their time to host a competitive event at Middlemoor giving children from as young as four, the opportunity to compete in swimming races.

26 children attended and all received a medal for entry, competing in the main strokes: front crawl; back crawl; butterfly and breaststroke. £1.1 million pedestrian bridge nears completion

The last section of the £1.1 million Town Quay Bridge, linking Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton, was lifted into place this week.

The new 90-metre long steel cable-stay bridge is being developed by Devon County Council and charity Sustrans, as part of the charity’s work in developing new everyday walking and cycling links in communities across the UK, with funding from the Big Lottery.

Finishing works are continuing on the bridge, and parapets incorporating lighting, are still to be installed. Approaches for the cycle way are also to be completed.

Have fun but stay safe for Ottery Tar Barrels event

The annual Ottery Tar Barrels event is due to take place on Monday 5th November and is likely to attract thousands of visitors to the town. Police are working closely with other agencies, including fire and ambulance services to monitor the event.

The Tar Barrels Committee is reminding visitors to be mindful of their own safety and follow the advice given by marshals on the night.

Teenager dies after collision between Porsche and van

An eighteen year old man from Axminster has died after a car crash last night at Musbury.

He was driving a black Porsche on the A358 when it was in collision with a van.

Emergency services attended but he died at the scene... the driver and passenger of the van escaped serious injury.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
