Ability Games set to dazzle in Devon

We have seen the nation take disability sport to their hearts at a national level through the Paralympics and events like the Devon Ability Games gives the chance for many athletes with a disability or impairment to shine at a local level.

The Devon Ability Games are held twice a year around the county and are an inspiring Olympic legacy.

An exciting campaign to make Exeter the most active city in the South West stepped into gear.

Get Active Exeter is a growing partnership of public and private sector organisations, including local media, large employers and councils, who have joined together in a bid to make the city the most active in the South West by 2018.

A programme of activity will run over three years, and will include 90 different get active projects across the city.

An initiative to get more adults in Exeter active has today (1 October) received a massive financial boost.

Get Active Exeter, whose ambition is to make Exeter the most active city in the South West by 2018, has been given a £130,000 grant from Sport England.

Get Active Exeter is a multi-sports partnership led by Exeter City Council, Exeter Health and Wellbeing Board and Active Devon, set up to get more adults in Exeter involved in physical activity.

Exeter schoolchildren celebrate RWC 2015

Rugby excitement gripped school children today with just one day until the start of the Rugby World Cup 2015. Primary aged children had their very own spectacular and colourful rugby world cup relay festival to mark the start of the tournament. The main festival site was at West Exe School but the fun wasn't only there!

Eight schools took part in the event which was organised by the RWC15 legacy group a partnership led by local primary schools, Mike Barratt, Active Devon, Exeter City Council, rugby clubs and other local partners.

HelPing! Hands needed

Once again this summer, Exeter will see Ping! table tennis tables springing up in public places around Exeter as part of the National Table Tennis Association’s Ping! initiative.

Active Devon, the local organisers ensured that last year’s event was a runaway success with over 30,000 people from across Exeter enjoying table tennis for free over the summer.

2,000 children to compete in Devon School Games

The legacy of the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics lives on in Devon with over 2,000 young people competing at this year’s Devon Summer School Games.

The Games are taking place on Wednesday 24th June in Plymouth across the some of its most iconic sporting sites.

These sites include the Plymouth Life Centre, Central Park, Plymouth Albion RFC and The Brickfields Recreational Ground. Plymouth School Sport Partnership are hosting the Games in conjunction with Active Devon, with support from RELAYS.

People all over Devon are putting their trainers, shoes and boots on and taking to the streets and pathways of their towns and villages in celebration of Devon Walking for Health Week from 13th-19th April.
