Gritters are out on Devon’s main salting routes this afternoon as temperatures are set to dip below zero later.
With freezing conditions forecast across the county, road surface temperatures are expected to plummet to as low as -3.3C in East Devon from early this evening, and icy patches may be a problem in areas of the county affected by water run-off following recent rainfall.

Firefighters have issued a warning to owners of thatched properties.
The warning comes following a fire which destroyed the Ring of Bells pub in North Bovey yesterday (Wednesday 13 January).
Ten fire engines attended the incident and fire crews worked throughout the night to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby thatched properties. A crew is still at the scene today to dampen down hotspots.

Leading local advice charity Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau is reporting that its new ‘Click or Call’ advice and information service has been a big success since it was launched in July, with more than 1000 calls answered in the last three months.
A further 176 people have used the new webchat facility, and a pilot email service has recently been launched.

Local charity Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau today publishes its latest advice trend statistics which show that so far this financial year it has helped 4,976 people directly with advice and information.
On average, clients with debt problems had debts totaling £15,685.79, up by £2,488.38 on the same period the previous year.
