BBC Radio Devon has today (Tuesday 28 June) announced that Janet Kipling has been appointed as the station’s Lunchtime Presenter on a permanent bases. Janet, who took over from Bill Buckley earlier this year, has a long-standing history with the BBC that first started 23 years ago at BBC Somerset, before moving to BBC Radio Devon in 1993 as a reporter, producer and then presenter of the Afternoon Show. Dementia researchers tell their story on Horizon

Researchers from the University of Exeter will appear on BBC Two’s flagship science strand Horizon this week [8pm on Wednesday May 11] to talk about a form of therapy which is yielding promising results in helping people with dementia manage the effects of the condition and improve their everyday lives.

The programme will feature a clinical trial that investigates whether goal-oriented cognitive rehabilitation can help to improve engagement in everyday activities and overall enjoyment of life for people living with the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease or vascular dementia....

Potting Shed presenters join Garden Festival

Jo Loosemore and Sarah Chesters from BBC Radio Devon’s Potting Shed programme (Sundays from 9-12) will be part of Toby Buckland’s 2016 Garden Festival.

Over the years this popular BBC Radio Devon programme has helped gardeners and gardens all over the county.

It invites listeners to ring, write, email and text in with garden queries and questions. Sarah Chesters from RHS Rosemoor gives expert advice and answers. The two presenters will be offering gardening Q & A sessions on Saturday 30th April in the tea tent during four sessions between 11am - 4pm

Superact's Exe-Arts programme is hosting an Open Pottery event on BBC Get Creative Day Everyone is welcome at the Exe-Arts Pottery Open Day on Saturday 2nd April at St David’s Community Centre pottery studio in Exeter.

Superact, a not-for-profit arts & wellbeing organisation based at the Community Centre, are BBC Creative Champions and the event is running as part of the BBC’s day celebration of all things creative. Exeter Deaf Academy thanks BBC

Exeter Royal Academy for Deaf Education is sending a big thank you to BBC Bitesize for adding more subtitles to the video clips shown on their free online learning resource.

The Exeter Deaf Academy’s School Council contacted the BBC in December because subtitles for the majority of classroom video clips were unavailable and not meeting the needs of deaf students.

They rallied support from their fellow pupils, school Governors, Trustees, staff and parents, who wrote letters to Tony Hall, Director General of the BBC in support of adding more subtitling to BBC Bitesize video...

Dr Brian May, founder of the Save Me Trust, will be taking part in the bTB “read test” with Crediton, mid-Devon, farmer Malcolm Huxtable on Thursday 29th October.

This is being filmed for BBC Inside Out.
