Cars are getting bigger, there’s no doubt about it, and it seems UK infrastructure can’t keep up with our ever-growing vehicles, leaving drivers in a spot of bother on the roads.

To find out just how much cars are expanding, Zuto analysed 14 of the UK’s most popular cars to see the difference in size in comparison to the original versions.

From the 14 models analysed, nine have almost DOUBLED in size, meaning there is twice as much room inside, but half as much on the road.

Research shows that the Ford Mustang has seen the biggest change, with a 63% increase in...

Weekend car use is returning to pre-lockdown levels, according to figures released this week by the Department for Transport (DfT). However, weekday car trips are still well below normal.

While weekday car use remained on a par with weekend use through much of the lockdown, weekend car trips have risen more sharply than weekday journeys over the last four weeks.

The weekend of 11 and 12 July was 7% below pre-lockdown levels, whereas the average daily weekday figure was down 19% last week, 13-17 July, and by 22% for the week before that, 6-10 July.

The research...

It’s sometimes very difficult not to be cynical about our restricted democracy when we see politicians buying people’s votes and promising them illusions that will never become real.

This is happening once again in the Chancellor’s recent announcement of a further £30bn road programme that will lead us to a better future, a message that is chronically sent out to placate car drivers as they face ever increasing delays, congestion collisions and poor air quality.

Since the 1960s governments of all colours have been saying if only we could have more motorways, by-passes and...

Two emergency calls an hour about dogs in hot cars during recent heatwave

The RSPCA received more than 300 calls - that’s two calls an hour - last week, during a mini heatwave which swept across England & Wales.

The animal welfare charity received 317 reports of animals in hot environments, the majority of which were dogs that had been left in hot cars, from Monday 28 May to Sunday 3 June - when temperatures hit the mid 20s. Advice is that people should contact the police on 999 if they see a dog in distress in a hot car but on average more than two calls an hour were still made to the charity.

The RSPCA is one of 14 organisations which run...
