Exeter musician's return to conducting for charity concert in aid of Unicef

A well-known Exeter musician is set to take up his baton again after a fifteen-year break in conducting for a special charity concert in aid of Unicef, the United Nations Children's Fund.

Raymond Calcraft, a lifelong Unicef supporter, was Director of Exeter Philharmonic Choir for fifteen years from 1988 to 2003. He led the Choir in more than 80 concerts in Exeter Cathedral and took them to Spain in 1998 to sing in Madrid's famous Auditorio Nacional and the Cathedral of Salamanca.

A rising star of the operatic world, Bulgarian mezzo-soprano Svetlina Stoyanova, will be coming to Exeter at the end of the month to take part in a special charity concert in aid of UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund.

Currently singing in Vienna at the famous State Opera, Svetlina will be flying to Exeter for just thirty-six hours to take part in the concert at Southernhay United Reformed Church on Saturday 29th September.

Jimmy Frost backs Walk for Widecombe community fundraiser

Preparations for LOVE Devon’s first fundraising event, the sponsored ‘Walk for Widecombe’ on Sunday 16th September, are gathering pace, with walkers starting to register in earnest, including former Grand National winning jockey Jimmy Frost and his daughter, champion jockey and LOVE Devon ambassador Bryony Frost.

Katie trikes to success - and raises over £2,000 for local charity

Exeter resident Katie Dicker took to her specially adapted trike at the weekend (Saturday 18 August) and has raised nearly £2,100 so far for Dream-A-Way – a charity that provides holiday grants and trips for people with physical and learning disabilities. Katie, a Guinness Care customer who has severe physical disabilities and is visually impaired, completed the massive challenge of cycling over 2 miles around Exeter’s Roman city wall. Devonshire Homes raises over £7,000 for Children’s Hospice South West at inaugural Golf Day

Local independent house builder Devonshire Homes has raised an incredible £7,295.67 for its charity partner, Children’s Hospice South West.

Devonshire Homes welcomed over 120 guests from across the housing and construction sector to its first Charity Golf Day at Downes Crediton Golf Club. Teams of four enjoyed a day on the greens which included 18-holes and a variety of competitions such as the longest drive, challenge the Pro and closest to the pin. The Devonshire Homes team came out on top, winning the prestigious Devonshire Homes Annual Charity Golf Day Trophy.

£100,000 legacy project grant donated to Hospiscare

Popular Devon charity Hospiscare is to receive a whopping £100,000 donation from The Exeter Property Summer Ball Committee and the Exeter Foundation.

The Legacy Project Grant is the first to be joint-funded by both organisations and will pay for the vital refurbishment of a 12-bed ward at Hospiscare’s Searle House in Exeter.

Based in Exeter, Hospiscare was formed in 1982 with two community nurses and the hospice was opened in 1992.

The charity now employs 160 staff and more than 1,000 volunteers and provides care and support to people with progressive life-limiting...

Devon golf day raises more than £12,000 for charity which helps keep local children safe, healthy and happy

A charity golf day in East Devon, made possible through the support of local businesses, has raised £12,109 for Life Education Wessex, a charity which delivers vital health, wellbeing and drugs education in Devon’s schools.

The event at Woodbury Park Golf Club in July raised much-needed funds to support the charity’s work with children in schools.
