Corner House Vets to boost Twilight Walk

The theme for this year’s all-female Twilight Walk on Saturday is “Back To The '80s”. And one group of Girls (who) Just Wanna Have Fun will be the assorted group of vets and administrative staff from Corner House Vets in Exmouth. They will also receive support from a very special friend: Ella the Owl, the event mascot! No doubt, she’ll be hoping for a performance of the Birdie Song!

Throughout her career, Linzi who works for CPS in Exeter, has encountered various crimes and witnessed the effect that crimes can have on individuals.

Linzi wanted to raise money to help victims and witnesses of crime to find the strength to move beyond the crime with the support from Victim Support; raising awareness, that there are people who care, a confidential ear, an unbiased listener, practical help during court hearings, or subsequent to court hearings for example assisting with medical treatment or getting rehoused.

Charity launches new financial support project

HOMELESS charity, Community Housing Aid, has secured funding to help vulnerable people resolve financial and housing issues.

The new project, entitled What Works 4 You, will target offenders, ex-offenders and young people aged between 16-25.

It has been funded by a grant of £80,482 from the Money Advice Service and will operate from Community Housing Aid’s office at Co-Lab, Wat Tyler House, in Exeter.

National Mills Weekend at Cricklepit

Join us for a special day of milling in celebration of National Mills Weekend, with family friendly wild crafts, bug hunting, nature trails and refreshments!

The historic mill comes alive as the waterwheel starts turning and volunteer millers show the traditional methods used for grinding grain.

Visitors will be given the chance to take part in milling demonstrations that will run from 10.30am – 12.30pm and 1 – 3pm. Cricklepit Mill’s wildlife garden will also be open for visitors to explore and family activities will run throughout the day.

Rebecca Goodenough and a group of friends are having a Hen Night with a difference. They are taking part in The Twilight Walk, a ladies only event in Exmouth on 8th July raising much needed funds for Hospiscare.

When she was just 13 years old Rebecca's mum died in St Michael’s Hospice, East Sussex. This was back in 1987 when it was a rarity to find a hospice, and at that time there were just six beds available at St Michael’s.

Devon Contract Waste supports life-saving service across Devon

Exeter-based waste management company Devon Contract Waste has donated £3500 to Devon Freewheelers, a life-saving charity providing voluntary out of hours transport for blood and medical supplies across Devon.

The donation could provide enough fuel to cover 49,000 miles of life-saving journeys around Devon or 14 sets of replacement tyres to maintain the road safety of the motorcycle fleet; both essential contributions to the charity’s running costs, which reach £150,000 per year.

The latest Hospiscare shop to open in the city is already proving a huge success. Indeed, the shop which opened in March and is situated in Heavitree is already very keen to recruit volunteers to help as much as possible.
