Visit Exeter launches Virtual Christmas Market

Visit Exeter have launched their first ever Virtual Christmas Market.

The aim of the initiative is to promote local businesses online in the run up to Christmas, during England’s second national lockdown.

“Traditionally, this is the busiest time of the year for many of the businesses taking part, so that’s why it’s so important for people to support the Virtual Christmas Market during these difficult times,” said Cllr Ollie Pearson, Lead Councillor for City Centre and Corporate Services.

Charity launches new Christmas campaign - Join the Christmas Rescue - as it reveals it took in more than 7000 animals last winter and received more than 2000 calls about cruelty and neglect a day

The RSPCA is bracing itself for the toughest Christmas yet as the charity fears the financial strain from the Coronavirus pandemic could mean a rise in pets being abandoned and neglected.

Exeter residents thanked for "fantastic job" recycling at Christmas

Exeter’s recycling chief has thanked city residents for their recycling efforts over the Christmas period and urged people to reduce, reuse and recycle, moving forward.

Hundreds of tonnes of aluminium cans, plastic containers and cardboard boxes were collected from houses across Exeter over the holidays.

Far too many older people spend Christmas entirely on their own, never receiving a single card or present. This past year, however, saw around 2,000 isolated and lonely older people who have contacted The Silver Line Helpline receive a gift and a card, thanks to a grant of £7,500 from Devonshire Freemasons through the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF), the freemasons charity.

RGB Building Supplies is thanking the local community for supporting its Big RGB Christmas Appeal in aid of Devon Air Ambulance. The appeal invited people to donate good quality, pre-loved items to a drop point in RGB’s Exeter branch.

Bulk bags full of clothing, shoes, books, DVDs and Blu Rays, toys, accessories, jewellery and bric-a-brac were given and passed on to the charity. The items will now be sold in Devon Air Ambulance shops helping it continue to save hundreds of lives across Devon.
