The Thrive Summer Series is heading to Princesshay this September offering shoppers a chance to have fun getting fit. The free one-day event is taking place from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 5 September as part of the nationwide tour. The Thrive team will be running activities to get shoppers moving.

City gears up for Mum's Bike Ride

A family from Exeter are asking for support for their second annual bike ride in memory of their late mother and wife, Bridget Johns, who sadly lost her battle with cancer in March last year.

Chris Johns, one of the organisers of the event and owner of Exeplore - The Bike Bus says: “Mum’s Bike Ride was such a great success last year, we had such an amazing turnout.

"We would like to bring even more families together and remember loved ones in 2015.

Old Mill have used pedal power to raise £7,916 for Yeovil charity School in a Bag.

Thirteen staff from West Country accountants and financial planners took part in Paris to Yeovil (P2Y) - a 300 mile cycle ride from Paris to their offices at Maltravers House in Yeovil.

The money raised will help Yeovil based charity School in a Bag (SIAB)deliver rucksacks filled with stationery, learning resources and eating utensils to poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster affected children.

Exeter Family Friendly raise £2.5k

A team of executives from Exeter Family Friendly raised £2675 for Devon-based charity Rainbow Living after cycling 72 miles from Wellington to Salcombe.

Starting at 8:30am, Exeter Family’s Andy Chapman (CEO), Simon Philp, Paul Austin, Alan Ord and Adrian Hodgkinson crossed the finish line at 16:30pm, to raise money for the protection provider’s charity of the year.

Devon Cycle Challenge launches

People across the county are being invited to take part in the Devon Cycle Challenge which starts next week.

Devon County Council is working with Love to Ride, as part of the National Cycle Challenge, to launch the new initiative which is aiming to get more people in Devon on their bikes.

City soldier's 1000 km static bike ride

A local soldier is challenging himself to cycle 1000 km on a stationary bicycle for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision impaired ex-Service men and women. Steve Tonking, aged 34 and from Exeter, enjoys tackling fitness challenges and will be running the London Marathon for Blind Veterans UK later this year. Young cyclists wanted for bone health study

University of Exeter researchers are looking for young male cyclists to take part in a study investigating how our body composition is affected by the sports we practice.

The team is seeking boys aged 12-14 who have cycled for three hours or more per week for the past three years, and who expect to continue over the next three years.

Participants will benefit from the study by learning about how the sport they take part in affects their body’s composition – especially their bones.

Work progressing to develop Sidbury and Sidford trail

Work is progressing on developing the route of the proposed walking and cycling trail between Sidbury and Sidford.

Following the response from the public exhibitions for the proposals, the results have shown that there was overwhelming support for an improved pedestrian/cycleway facility linking the two communities – with approximately 80% of those who responded “strongly supporting” the scheme.
