Exeter business owner and director of The Prop Factory, Carmen Croxall, is visiting Exeter Deaf Academy to speak to students about how she built a million-pound business that began in her parents’ garage just 6 years earlier.

Carmen’s talk will explore the challenges of running a business as well as the mental and emotional resources needed to make it thrive. Three generations take on Santa Run for Exeter Deaf Academy

On Sunday 3 December, Exeter Deaf Academy student Sam Harris will take on the city’s Santa Run to raise money for his school with THREE generations of his family running alongside him.

12 year-old Sam will be joined by his 3 year-old stepsister Alex, his father and stepmother, and his grandparents Jane (64) and Ted (74). Sam’s father Robert said;

Deaf students mark national Deaf Awareness Week

Exeter Deaf Academy students will be teaching British Sign Language (BSL) and Deaf Awareness to schools, residential homes and shoppers in Exmouth and Exeter.

Activities include College students teaching Deaf Awareness to visitors in Princesshay shopping centre in Exeter, to staff parachuting 15,000 ft from a plane for a brave fundraising challenge in East Devon.

School students will also be creating beautiful sand sculptures on Exmouth beach to mark the national event which this year has the theme of ‘A Celebration’ to celebrate people across the community working together...

Staff and students from Exeter Deaf Academy will be among the sea of Santa’s running along Exeter Quay this Sunday.

The event is organised by Exeter City Football Club’s Football in the Community, with Exeter Deaf Academy being one of their chosen charities.

Exeter Deaf Academy students will share what they imagine might happen at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) at night in the launch of their “Writing With Our Hands” film on Wednesday 19th October.

The showing is part of Exeter’s exetreme imagination festival of writing and stories.

Deaf student wins national drama competition

Exeter Deaf Academy are celebrating the birth of a future star as student Molly Thomas followed up winning a national drama competition by showcasing her acting talent in a drama masterclass at the prestigious mac Birmingham over the weekend of 19/20 June.

Molly is a winner of this year’s National Deaf Children’s Society’s (NDCS) ‘Raising the Bar’ competition. Exeter teacher receives Silver Award for Excellence in Special Needs Teaching

On Friday 17 June, Exeter Deaf Academy Governors, Trustees, staff and students were joined by the Right Honourable Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw and the Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Exeter Cynthia Thompson.

English teacher, Deb Thomas was presented with the Silver Award for Excellence in Special Needs Teaching 2016 by the MP and Lord Mayor and is now one of the top six teachers in the UK in line to win a Pearson Teaching Award for 2016 Teacher of Year.

Exeter to host new deaf-inclusive active outdoors club

On Wednesday 8 June, from 7-9pm, local charity Exeter Deaf Academy is inviting Deaf people and their families to a free opening of the new Active Outdoors Community Club, at Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre, on Exeter Quay.

Thanks to funding from Awards for All England, who have awarded a lottery grant of £4,655 towards this yearlong community project, the new Deaf-inclusive club will be offering taster sessions of canoeing, kayaking, archery, sailing and caving in an accessible environment.
