Six new potentially lifesaving throw line boards and reach poles have been installed at locations around Exeter Quay with the aim to reduce drownings around the area.
Between 2015 and 2019, confirmed fatality statistics show that ten lives have been lost on Exeter's waterways.
Nationally, around half of people who drown had no intention of being in water – they may have been walking, running, or jump in the water after their dog. There is also an increased likelihood after drinking alcohol. According to the latest national data, double the number of people drowned after...

Devon County Council is working with partners to ensure that rapid ’30 minute’ community testing for people without Covid-19 symptoms will soon be available across Devon.
It follows the Government announcement on January 10 that it is expanding asymptomatic community testing across the UK.
Approximately one in three people who have coronavirus do not display symptoms.
Community testing will help to find those who have COVID-19 but do not have symptoms and need to isolate and who may inadvertently be spreading the virus.
Devon County Council has launched it’s third round of COVID-19 Funding to help provide valuable funding to organisations working in communities that have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
The scheme launches this Monday (January 11, 2021) and grants of up to £700 are available.
The funding aims to help voluntary and community groups to tackle the social and economic impacts of the virus outbreak and help those who are most vulnerable in their communities.
The funding can be used to address issues such as:

Devon County Council leader John Hart, who chairs the Team Devon Local Outbreak Engagement Board, said as the Board met today (Thursday 8 October):
"Today we have been, rightly, focusing on the situation in Exeter and I want to speak about that. But firstly I want to emphasise that across the rest of Devon we have been keeping levels of coronavirus low.
“Cases are steady and that is largely as a result of the commonsense of the people of this county. And I want to commend them for that.
“But we cannot be complacent and it behoves all of us to make a renewed...
