SW jobs optimism among best in UK

The jobs market continues to thrive in the South West, according to Manpower, the world’s workforce experts. With an Outlook of +9%, a two point increase on last quarter, hiring intentions in the region stand well above the national average of +6%.

The Manpower Employment Outlook Survey is based on responses from 2,100 UK employers. It asks whether employers intend to hire additional workers or reduce the size of their workforce in the coming quarter. Weddings theme for Zeal Monachorum Flower Festival

A flower festival and garden fete will be part of a weekend of events at St Peter’s Church in Zeal Monachorum from Friday 12th June to Sunday 14th June. The church will be open each day for the flower festival which have a theme of ‘weddings’. More than 10 wedding dresses will be displayed belonging to ladies who were married at St Peter’s with the floral displays around the church depicting the colours of the bouquets. Grant available for animal welfare groups

Police hunt railway track vandals

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for information following a series of incidents where objects deliberately placed on the railway were struck by trains. The incidents all took place in and around the village of Newton St Cyres in Devon. Sergeant David Mannion said: “Some time in the early hours of Tuesday, 5 May, four concrete troughing lids were deliberately placed on the line close to Newton St Cyres station.” The first train through the station at 5.50am hit the lids. Climbers at The Quay Climbing Centre in Exeter will be attempting to climb the height of Everest on Friday 12th June as part of a fund raising day to support earthquake relief projects in Nepal.

Open air theatre comes to East Devon

Open air theatre, including works by Shakespeare and Jane Austen, will be staged in two of East Devon’s best loved parks this summer.

Four touring theatre companies are bringing their productions to the beautiful Connaught Gardens in Sidmouth and Manor Gardens in Exmouth in a joint project between East Devon District Council’s StreetScene and Countryside departments. Study reveals largest turtle breeding colony in the Atlantic

A new study from the University of Exeter has revealed that the Central African country of Gabon is providing an invaluable nesting ground for a vulnerable species of sea turtle considered a regional conservation priority.

A huge ground survey covering nearly 600 km of Gabon’s coastline has uncovered the largest breeding colony of olive ridley turtles in the Atlantic.

This week is Road Safety week (8-14 June) Fire and Rescue Services across the UK are coming together to raise awareness of the dangers to young drivers of driving and being distracted.
