Devon to remain in Tier 2

Devon is remaining in Tier 2 for the time being, the government has confirmed today.

It has reviewed the three-tier structure and decided that because of our circumstances - including case numbers, their demographic, pressure on NHS services – we will stay in Tier 2 until its next review at the end of the year.

That means:

  • No household mixing indoors
  • Rule of six applies outdoors
  • Pubs and restaurants to shut at 11pm
  • Alcohol only served as part of a substantial meal
  • Spectators allowed at sports events and live
  • ...

Public Health Devon is joining the call for caution, as families plan their Christmas breaks between the 23 and 27 December.

The government has said that the tier restrictions will be relaxed during that period to allow Christmas bubbles - up to three families - to meet indoors.

But public health experts are urging caution, because of the risk that meeting face to face with others will cause, especially to older and vulnerable people.

Temporary measures are to be introduced in Queen Street in Exeter to provide more space for pedestrians.

The Exeter Highways and Traffic Orders Committee (HATOC) has today approved the £75,000 scheme which will narrow the road to traffic, making it one-way (eastbound) between Paul Street and Northernhay Street. Iron Bridge will be made one way westbound from Paul Street to South of Dinham Road to mitigate the impact of the measures on the St Davids Hill community.

Businesses across the South West worked more closely together in 2020 despite the economic challenges of the pandemic.
