UK digital healthcare company, Brain in Hand, has won a prestigious Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) Healthcare award. Funded by NHS England & NHS Improvement, the £800,000 award is a recognition of Brain in Hand’s revolutionary digital self-management approach to support services for autistic people, both pre- and post-diagnosis.

The award also signals confidence in Brain in Hand as an effective solution in meeting the critical needs in autism services, supporting the NHS Long Term plan1 and health and social care strategy.

A new weekly Lottery to help donkeys in greatest need in the UK and worldwide has been launched by international animal welfare charity, The Donkey Sanctuary.

The Donkey Sanctuary uses its funds to care for its 7,000 resident donkeys and mules in the UK and Europe. The charity also runs a donkey-facilitated learning programme that helps vulnerable children and adults develop life skills, by connecting with donkeys on an emotional and physical level.

Rising Stars of Civil Engineering named by CECA South West

Three rising stars in civil engineering have received prestigious Young Achiever awards from the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) South West.

Peter Boden, who lives in Exeter , was named the south west’s most promising trainee civil engineer; Aiden Shipp, from Paignton , the most promising trainee quantity surveyor; and Sam Beer, from Exeter , the most promising apprentice. Farmers urged to protect their land as lockdown 2.0 sees rise in trespassers

Farmers and landowners are being advised to protect themselves from unwanted public rights of way being created, as lockdown 2.0 has again seen an increasing number of walkers in the countryside.

Leading property consultancy Fisher German, which has an office in Exeter, is urging landowners in the South West to protect their interests as the boom in walking during another lockdown period has resulted in more people trespassing.

Trading standards is advising online consumers in Devon to only buy from ‘reputable’ traders, and to refer to a new advice video if they experience any problems.

The new advice video has been commissioned by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) ahead of ‘Black Friday’ (Friday 27 November) and ‘Cyber Monday’, (Monday 30 November), the two big pre-Christmas shopping days this month. Cancer services in East Devon will receive a major boost this month.

Ottery St Mary Hospital will become a new cancer hub for patients and their families.
