Teignbridge District Council has launched their 2017 ‘Don’t be a Dumper’ campaign, aimed at getting people to pick up after their pooch and reduce the amount of dog mess left on the sands and seafront areas of local resorts.
Throughout the week, starting Monday 30 January, Teignbridge’s resorts staff will be using glow in the dark temporary spray paint to mark dog mess on the promenade areas. Dog wardens will be out in force and will fine anyone who is seen not picking up. A clear up will take place on Friday 3 February to remove what’s been left behind.
Devon and Somerset Trading Standards have issued a warning to prospective dog purchasers, advising them to beware of buying from illegal puppy dealers.
Increasing numbers of puppies are being illegally imported into the UK from puppy farms across Europe.
Often they're too young to have left their mothers, and having endured long journeys to the UK, many arrive seriously ill or die within days of being sold.
Devon and Somerset Trading Standards received, on average, a complaint per week during 2016 from people seeking advice about newly purchased sick, mid-described...
Eleven men from across England and Wales sentenced for sickening acts of deliberate cruelty
Members of a gang of animal abusers who tortured and killed wild animals with their dogs have been jailed.
One piece of sickening footage seized during the investigation by the RSPCA shows a badger screaming in pain as it is torn apart by two dogs. Other clips show a fox trapped in a cage being tormented by dogs, as well as one where a terrier type dog is put in the cage to fight with the trapped fox, giving neither animal the chance to escape.
With temperatures in the high 20s this week, new research released from the Dogs Trust warns pet owners to be particularly cautious of the extreme risks of leaving dogs in hot cars, even for only a short period of time.
According to the charity, shockingly one in 10 people know of a dog that has come to harm whilst left in a car in hot weather, furthermore almost half (48%) mistakenly believe it is ok to leave a dog in a car if windows are left open or if parked in shade. There has been a dramatic increase of 50% AA call outs in order to rescue dogs locked in cars and with such...
Twelve organisations have teamed up to spread an important message among dog owners this summer.
Rescue and rehoming charities, veterinary associations, police, and welfare organisations are all working together to ensure owners know the dangers the warm weather can pose to dogs over the summer months.
The RSPCA receives thousands of reports of dogs suffering from heat exposure every year - that equates to one call every hour.
Already this summer the RSPCA have been called to three dogs which tragically died in a hot car.
The search is on to find the UK’s most dog-friendly places, as the Kennel Club launches its Be Dog Friendly Awards 2016.
The competition, now in its tenth year, is part of the wider Be Dog Friendly campaign which aims to break down barriers for man’s best friend by encouraging more businesses and public spaces to welcome dogs.
With around 8.5 million dogs in the UK, and around one in four households owning a dog, the great British public are always on the lookout for places where their four-legged family members are also welcome. The Be Dog Friendly Awards recognise...
Friday (24 June) is national Bring Your Dog To Work Day - and Britain’s favourite day at the office is raising an interesting question: do dogs belong in the workplace?
Businesses from across the UK will welcome their dog loving employees into the workplace along with their loyal (and well-behaved!) four-legged companions. The day aims to raise money for All Dogs Matter, a charity which rehomes hundreds of dogs every year in London and Norfolk, while promoting the benefits man’s best friend in the workplace.
This year’s event has already seen a number of different...
With temperatures set to soar to 20C this week, the RSPCA is issuing advice to pet owners to ensure their animals are comfortable and happy in the heat.
The Met Office has predicted highs of 20C on Saturday and Sunday, prompting the RSPCA to remind pet owners to consider their animals over the summer weather.
Just as cold, wintry weather can pose a risk to animals, hot temperatures in the summer months can also be hazardous to our furry friends.
Every year we receive thousands of reports of animals suffering from heat exposure. The most common calls the RSPCA’s...
East Devon District Council has improved information and signs advising visitors and residents about the seasonal dog bans on some areas of our beaches.
This year, for the first time, the council is using temporary stencils at the beach entrances so that the ban areas are clear to everyone. The seasonal ban lasts from May 1st to September 30th each year.
Cllr Iain Chubb, East Devon’s Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: “Not everyone wants to share our beaches with dogs and the presence of dogs in ban areas can cause distress to others, so we are asking that all dog...
