South West chefs lining up to take centre stage at Dartmouth Food Festival

Devon is buzzing with talented, award-winning chefs, many of whom are making Dartmouth Food Festival (Friday 25 – Sunday 27 October) their food and drink festival of choice. This year the festival is delighted to be showcasing even more high profile local chefs than ever before.

Sapphire celebrates 1st Birthday with special guests Michael Caines and Naomi Cleaver

Sapphire Living Space, based in Topsham, celebrated their first Birthday last Friday evening with style and were joined by special guests Michael Caines and Naomi Cleaver and over 100 guests.

Celebrations included a live band, drinks and canapés, while Michael Caines did some food demonstrations and then signed copies of his new book.

Offering some of the best of British gastronomy in the heart of the Devonshire countryside, Highbullen Hotel has this week announced the appointment of new Head Chef, Dean Griffin.

Dean joins Highbullen Hotel, Golf and Country Club from 4* Menzies Welcombe Hotel & Golf Course, Stratford upon Avon, where he headed up a fine dining restaurant and 150-cover events venue. Other recent posts over his 25-year career include Executive Head Chef at St Ives Harbour Hotel & Spa and Barceló Imperial Hotel, Torquay.

St Thomas Community Festival - A fun day out for all the family!

The local community in St Thomas, Exeter, has come together and organised a local community festival which is being held in the St Thomas Pleasure Grounds.

There will be lots to see and enjoy, with great local bands and musicians playing including Moscow Magazine, Tatty Hat, Cut Purse Rascals, Charlotte Ward and Hysteria Kids Rock Band. Order of events on the Music Stage will be hosted by talented local singer songwriter Karl Zumar.

Watercoolers help in the fight against heavy drinking

Self-service watercoolers are being installed in pubs and clubs across Devon in an effort to get partygoers to drink more water while they are on a night out.

Research has shown that making water freely available can help reduce the problems caused by heavy drinking including anti social behaviour, violent crime and domestic abuse.

The initiative called Project H2O is being supported by local councils and Community Safety Partnerships across Devon and Devon & Cornwall Police.
