East Devon District Council says it is keen to play its part in the national programme to relocate refugees says East Devon A spokesman told the Daily: "The process of assisting refugees is led by Governmental policy, and, in the case of Devon, normally co-ordinated locally by the County Council. Devon County Council is the relevant social services authority and it is anticipated that they will play a key part in any local offer of support. "It would appear that government are looking to build on the existing Syrian Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme to target assistance to 20,000...
The mystery behind the Exmouth Beach sink hole which has opened up three times over the last six weeks may finally be resolved.
Following a tip off from a member of the public, East Devon District Council engineers have discovered a South West Water pipe deep under the sand which looks like it has become blocked in some way.
The engineers will now be working with South West Water and contractors over the coming weeks to resolve the problem. Once the council has completed its investigations, it will be able to confirm a more accurate timescale.
East Devon District Council has begun consulting with parish and town councils, as well as people who have commented previously on the Local Plan, on the proposed criteria that will guide its definition of Built Up Area Boundaries (BUABs) for 17 East Devon villages.
BUABs provide a dividing line between areas of ‘countryside’ where development can only take place in specified exceptional circumstances and a settlement with a good range of services and facilities where subject to various criteria development will be permitted. They appear as black lines on maps and are a common form...
East Devon District Council is inviting local residents who live near Belshers Slipway and Shelly Beach in Exmouth, as well as people who use the slipway and the beach, to comment on its proposal to introduce a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that could address alleged anti social behaviour, occurring on the beach and slipway.
Some incidents, involving the launching and recovery of watercraft, as well as people driving onto the beach to access watercraft on the estuary, have become a source of annoyance to some people living nearby.
Government proposals for a 1% reduction in council house rents each year for the next four years means East Devon District Council faces a £7 million cut in its income by 2019/20.
The council is now asking to meet with its MPs Hugo Swire and Neil Parish to discuss the compulsory 1% rent cut which was announced in the Budget in June.
East Devon is landlord of 4,245 council homes, and its social rents, at less than £82 a week, are already well below equivalent affordable rents charged by most Registered Housing Providers.
Potential impact of residential occupation on environmentally sensitive Pebblebed Heaths justifies council’s tough preventative action.
In an unprecedented move to safeguard the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths, which have triple designated status - as a Special Protection Area (SPI), Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) – East Devon District Council has taken out an injunction to prevent the unlawful development by the gypsy owner of a remote plot of land that adjoins the Pebblebed Heaths, which are protected by the highest levels of...
It’s a big thank you from East Devon District Council to the extraordinary local resident whose outstandingly generous financial donation has resulted in the installation today of a new bus shelter for Sidmouth.
Residents waiting to catch their bus at Sidmouth Triangle will no longer be at the mercy of the elements, as the brand spanking new shelter – kindly donated by this caring and community minded person – has now been installed by East Devon District Council in place of an earlier version, which was destroyed by vandals.
A huge amount has been achieved since work began at Cranbrook in June 2011. The first residents collected their keys in summer 2012 and St Martin’s C of E Primary School opened its doors shortly after - all when there were less than 50 homes occupied.
A half hourly bus service and the multi-purpose Younghayes Community Centre followed, along with a children’s play area, open space in the country park and connections made to already improved cycle and walking routes.
A pharmacy and doctors surgery are now open for the community to use and in summer 2015, opposite the...
An improved recycling collection service is to be trialled in two East Devon areas this autumn following approval from the district council’s Cabinet.
Around 1,800 households in the Feniton and Exmouth (The Colony) areas will be able to recycle more during the trial as the council is adding cardboard and mixed plastics to the extensive number of items it already collects from the kerbside each week.
Every household in the trial areas will receive an additional 70 litre reusable sack which they can use for their recyclables along with their usual green recycling box. The...
An ambitious £18 million development to rejuvenate Exmouth’s waterfront has taken a step forward following a decision by East Devon District Council’s Cabinet (June 17, 2015) to enter into detailed discussions with the preferred developers.
Bournemouth-based Moirai Capital Investments has put forward proposals to breathe new life into the nine–acre council-owned seafront site at Queen’s Drive with a range of exciting leisure facilities. This follows the marketing of the site by Exeter-based property firm, Jones Lang LaSalle, during 2014.
