New ‘green’ energy system for leisure centre

A new renewable energy system has recently been installed at Dawlish Leisure Centre, as part of the much needed upgrade to the building management system.

The new biomass heating system is fuelled by wood pellets, which burn more cleanly than traditional fossil fuels and are practically carbon neutral because they use natural resources.

Heating solutions company, ZERO, is set to take the heating world by storm as it unveils its new range of smart heat interface units – the most advanced on the market – at Ecobuild next month.

ECOE share offer reaches £390,000

The Exeter Community Energy Share Offer, which has been running since November 7th, closed on Thursday, having reached an astonishing investment figure of £390,000.

ECOE have been raising funds via a community share offer to install solar panels on 9 community and commercial buildings across Exeter and East Devon. Exeter is one of over 50 UK cities that has pledged to be run entirely on green energy by 2050.

The City Council has joined the likes of London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool and Leeds to make the environmental commitment to dramatically reduce CO2 emissions.

Exeter's pledge comes ahead of crucial international climate change talks in Paris next month (December).

SW bill payers missing out on £180m

New data reveals there is a staggering £180 million worth of savings available to households in the South West if they simply switch their energy supplier.

As colder weather sets in, the Government revealed new figures estimating that 900,000 households in the South West still stand to save £200 or more by switching their gas and electricity supplier.

However a recent poll of over 2,000 UK adults conducted by the Government found that of those surveyed in the South West:

SW Community Energy Day of Action

Over 30 community energy groups across the South West will come together next week in a coordinated Day of Action to urge the region's MPs to take urgent action to protect the future of community renewable energy projects.

Community energy groups will be meeting their MPs on the 16 October to warn that Government proposals to cut renewable energy subsidies by 87 per cent will lead to the loss of jobs and investment in their local area. Solar panels on Exeter car parks a UK first

The installation of solar panels on top of Exeter car parks is a UK first.

The pioneering initiative at John Lewis and Mary Arches Street Car Parks is being delivered by Devon firm Sungift Energy on behalf of Exeter City Council.

Once in place it will provide a gross income of over £50,000 per annum, generating 285,227 kwh per year of electricity and saving more than 150 tonnes of carbon.
