There’s still time to take advantage of flooding grants but people need to hurry as the deadline is 31 March.

Exeter residents and businesses who experienced flooding between 1 December 2013 and 31 March 2014 can apply for grants of up to £5,000 to install flood resistance measures to their property.

Warden service set to be saved by city council

An old people's warden service threatened with being axed because of a funding shortfall looks set to be saved by Exeter City Council.

Devon County Council recently announced that it was withdrawing funding for the warden service for residents in older persons' accommodation because of pressures on its budget.

But the City Council - who manage the accommodation - has stepped in with an offer to fund the service after residents said how much they valued the support.

The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England is asking local people for their help to draw up a new pattern of council wards for Exeter City Council.

The consultation is the first part of an electoral review which will re-draw ward boundaries across the city.

The Commission has also announced that it is minded to recommend that the council should have 39 councillors in the future: one fewer than the current arrangements.

Visitors to Rugby World Cup 2015 will be greeted with world class customer service from businesses in Exeter and the Heart of Devon.

Exeter is hosting three rugby matches at Sandy Park in September and October, attracting international and VIP visitors to Exeter and the Heart of Devon.

Real Christmas tree recycling in Exeter

Exeter City Council are providing drop off sites for Exeter residents to take their real Christmas trees for recycling this weekend (Saturday 10 January and Sunday 11 January 2015).

The trees will be shredded and used in the city's parks or sent for composting just outside Exeter.

Trees put out for normal rubbish or recycling collections will not be collected.

Licensing discounts for Exeter landlords

Landlords of houses of multiple occupation (HMOs) in Exeter still have time to take advantage of discounted licensing ahead of changes to new legislation set to be introduced in February.

Exeter City Council is offering a series of discounts for landlords affected by the new legislation, to those who register their properties before 15 January, undertake a training course or are part of a recognised landlords' association.

In November Exeter City Council approved an extension of its licensing for HMOs following a lengthy period of public consultation.

Residents invited to speak at open forum

People in Exeter are being given the chance to quiz councillors on any “burning” issues for the city.

Exeter residents are invited to put forward questions to members of the joint County and City Councils' Exeter Board, at their next meeting on 15 January at 5:30pm at the Civic Centre in Paris Street. The Board allocates 15 minutes for their ‘open forum’, with 3 minutes per speaker, with a maximum of three to four speakers to allow time for discussion.
