The Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Conservative Party in Exeter is waging a War on Weeds in the city.

Council doing 'everything possible' to evict travellers

Exeter City Council confirmed today (Monday 8 September) that it would do everything possible to clear travellers from playing fields at Hamlin Lane. Locks to the Hamlin Lane playing fields site were cut on Friday morning and the Council has reported the matter to the police. The travellers - consisting of a number of caravans and associated vehicles - moved onto the site on Friday, forcing the cancellation of a number of football matches over the weekend.

Housing survey offers chance to win iPad

Exeter City Council is working with the University of Exeter to look at housing for the future in the city.

Cllr Rob Hannaford, Lead Councillor for Housing and Customer Access, said: “We’re really keen to hear from people who are not currently registered for social housing. We already know quite a lot about housing need in Exeter because there are over 4,000 households registered on Devon Home Choice, now we want to hear from those not on the list.”

Exeter City Council has commissioned a brand new city-wide initiative – a Low Emission Strategy - to improve Exeter’s air quality.

The main aim of the strategy is to protect people - especially the vulnerable - from respiratory and other potentially life-threatening illnesses related to poor air quality caused by traffic.

New homes offer reduced heating bills

Construction of 20 new homes at three sites in Exeter is now well underway.

The accommodation at Bennett Square (Mincinglake) and Brookway (Whipton) is expected to be completed in spring 2015. Newport Road (Countess Wear) expected to be finished by summer 2015.

The new homes will be let to families in housing need. Three of the new houses will be built to full wheelchair accessible standards.

All of the homes are being built to the Passivhaus standard, meaning they will be cheaper to heat than a standard home and provide stable internal temperatures all year round...

Across the country, organisations and individuals are being encouraged to switch off their lights between 10pm and 11pm on Monday 4 August, leaving just a single candle or light burning for a shared moment of reflection.

Council enforcers set to take on graffiti artists and dog fouling

A new street enforcement team to keep the city looking good by tackling dog fouling, dangerous dogs, litter and graffiti looks set to be introduced in Exeter.

The team would also get involved in the enforcement of the City Council's car parks, dealing with stray dogs and the removal of small illegal encampments from Council land, which can be associated with anti-social behaviour and drug taking.

Grant approved for Topsham coastal defences

The Environment Agency (EA) has approved a grant to cover the costs of repairs to coastal defences in Topsham. The defences at Bowling Green Marsh, Topsham, were damaged by the storms in February this year and the repair has just been finished. A large section of the coastal defence alongside the River Clyst frontage was severely damaged during the high tides and storm damage in January and February. 500 day countdown to Rugby World Cup

Exeter Chiefs players, school children and city representatives revealed a giant calendar at Sandy Park yesterday (Tuesday May 6) to mark 500 days to go to Rugby World Cup 2015.

The calendar revealed the date when tickets for all 48 matches, including three fixtures at Sandy Park, will go on sale to the general public: September 12, with the application window closing on September 29, 2014. From September 12, members of the public will be able to select the matches they want to attend across the country and in Cardiff, with any oversubscribed matches balloted.
