Council approves £3M to restore Grand Western Canal

The Cabinet has confirmed its decision to repair, restore and modernise part of the Grand Western Canal following extensive damage in November last year.

The Devon County Council owned canal suffered a serious breach on 21 November 2012 at the Swing embankment which rises nearly 60 feet from surrounding fields at Halberton.

This followed unprecedented rainfall of 38mm during the early hours coupled with the inflow of water into the canal from adjoining land. Water levels in the canal rose by 25cm within a matter of hours.

City’s 'Super Saver' Season Tickets on sale from Monday

Exeter City are thanking their supporters, both old and new, by announcing that season ticket prices for next season are being frozen at 2012/13 levels for those who purchase in the Super Saver period (which runs from 18th February 2013 to 6th April 2013), except for U12 tickets in the Stagecoach and Big Bank stands – although these still represent fantastic value, at less than £2.25 per game.

Park Mark to be awarded to John Lewis Car Park

Specialists from Devon and Cornwall Police have worked closely with Exeter City Council to help secure a prestigious Park Mark award for its John Lewis car park, Exeter.

The John Lewis car park, formerly King William Street car park, reopened for business during September 2012 and has been successful in achieving the Park Mark Safer Parking accreditation for the first time. Previous attempts to secure the award were unsuccessful due to high crime figures and ongoing reports of anti-social behaviour.

Ladies pamper night at Sapphire Living Space

VIP guests enjoyed a ladies pamper night at Sapphire Living Space near Darts Farm in Topsham.

The luxury kitchen and bathroom showroom joined forces with Saks Hair and Beauty and Purity Day Spa, both in Exeter, to host a drinks and canapés evening with live demonstrations. The food and drinks were catered for by Bon Gout of Exeter.

Co-owner Mark Newbery said: "This will be the first of many events we will be staging at Sapphire. It was a great success."

An Exeter car retailer is celebrating the news that two of its employees have secured first place in a coveted national competition.

Geoff Govier, 30, emerged victorious in the Parts Manager category while Adrian Christie, 40, was named Best Service Manager at SEAT's recent Top Service People final, after they excelled in a customer satisfaction incentive.
