The first of four artists’ responses to RAMM’s collections Polly Morgan’s You Are Here is on display from August.

Polly studied with Scottish taxidermist George Jamieson, and over the past ten years she has played with taxidermy traditions, creating unsettling sculptures that question our often sentimentalised view of the natural world. Her art has caught the imagination of collectors, curators and audiences around the world and she has exhibited in Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Italy, the UK and US.

Meeting and talk with local bird experts from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). Join them for a 20 to 30 minute walk around the museum to see the wildlife on display. Discover underwater wonders around Devon’s shores, learn how bees are saving the UK millions of pounds a year, which piece of clothing inspired the RSPB’s origins and how everything from tigers to sparrows are being protected by local conservationists.

Intimate Worlds: Exploring Sexuality through the Wellcome Collection

This exhibition contains sexually explicit material.

Throughout history, cultures around the world have talked about sex, regulated sexual activity and produced cultural artefacts relating to sex, often revealing refreshingly or startlingly different attitudes towards sex.

Between 1900 and his death in 1936, the billionaire pharmaceutical giant Sir Henry Wellcome amassed over a million objects from across the globe for his museum of medical history. A substantial proportion of these related to human sexuality.

British Wildlife Photographer Award 2013

The 14 categories, including Botanical Britain, Young People’s Awards, Coast and marine and Wildlife in HD Video, are inspiring, thought provoking and highlight the natural wonders right on our doorsteps.

Subjects range from familiar favourites to rare and elusive floral and faunal gems.

RAMM Friends Art Auction

Join RAMM’s Friends for an evening reception and auction to raise money towards the purchase of a portrait of the Devon artist Francis Hayman by Sir Joshua Reynolds.

The evening starts with with music from well known Jazz Trio Douce Ambiance followed by the auction at 7.30pm conducted by Bearnes, Hampton & Littlewood. #

The artworks have been donated by local artists and can be viewed beforehand online and in Gallery 20 on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 March, 10am to 5pm.

Classical Concerts taking place at RAMM

Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum Development Trust has announced that Rathbone Investment Management is sponsoring the third series of classical concerts at the museum in April, May and June 2014.

Following the successful concert series held in the Spring, last year, RAMM’s Development Trust has organised another series of classical concerts. The series will start with one of the most celebrated cellists performing on the international stage, Raphael Wallfisch with his regular duo partner, pianist, John York on Wednesday 2nd April at 7.30pm.

Sam Smiles is Emeritus Professor of Art History, University of Plymouth, and Programme Director, Art History and Visual Culture, University of Exeter. He specialises in the history of British art and has a particular interest in the contribution of Devon and Cornwall to the national picture.

Lunchtime lecture: British Exploration and Images of the New World c 1580-1615
