Six new potentially lifesaving throw line boards and reach poles have been installed at locations around Exeter Quay with the aim to reduce drownings around the area.
Between 2015 and 2019, confirmed fatality statistics show that ten lives have been lost on Exeter's waterways.
Nationally, around half of people who drown had no intention of being in water – they may have been walking, running, or jump in the water after their dog. There is also an increased likelihood after drinking alcohol. According to the latest national data, double the number of people drowned after...
A photo of Exeter Quay on Christmas morning has been chosen to be included in RGB Building Supplies’ ‘Love where you live’ 2021 calendar, which will be sold to raise funds for Devon Air Ambulance and Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust.
RGB had asked residents of the south west to send in photographs that celebrate the diverse scenery of the region, and the photo, taken by Kate Coldrick, is one of 12 entries the builders merchant picked for the calendar. As well as seeing her photo in print, Kate has received a £100 voucher to spend at her local RGB branch.
Devon Air Ambulance has launched their latest virtual event, designed to bring your creativity and imagination together in a brand-new challenge!
Devon Air Ambulance’s annual Dragon Boat Festival would usually take place at Exeter Quay in September, but as with many events, it can no longer take place dueto ongoing Coronavirus restrictions.

When you ask a server in a restaurant where the scampi is from and you are given what amounts to a postcode, you know they know their stuff.
I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of Rockfish in Exeter which, when it comes to the dining experience, (and here's the pun) is the plaice to be!
We were served with an array of delightful dishes including, spider crab croquettes, ceviche sardines, cuttlefish, oysters and scampi.
When the scampi tray came around, I was informed by the server that they would be the tastiest and juiciest I had ever experienced....
Exeter could get a stunning new waterside feature.
Plans have been submitted to build a brand new bridge and boardwalk down on Exeter’s Quayside. The new structure would replace the existing Mallison Bridge which spans the medieval leats on the north bank of the River Exe. The bridge had to be repaired in March 2017 after some wooden sections became rotten. After work was carried out, it became apparent that a long-term solution was needed. The City Council has now come up with a design which is both striking and functional. The plans have been submitted to the Council’s planning...
Stagecoach South West’s new Quayside service will be starting on Friday 6 July – just in time for the main summer season.
Details of the new service were confirmed last week by Exeter City Council who, along with the Environment Agency, Devon County Council and the Exeter Quay and Canal Trust, is funding the six month trial.
The Quay service will form part of the H route and all partners involved hope the improved connections between the city centre and the Quayside will be of benefit to visitors, residents and employees of local businesses.
Eye-catching pavement stencils have been spray painted on Exeter city centre streets to promote the Quayside while the area undergoes flood defence work. The City Council has carried out the work using biodegradeable chalk-based paint which eventually washes off, to give the traders a boost. The stencilled messages remind people to “Visit the Quay, a short walk away” or “Shop@the Quay”, “Eat@the Quay”, “Drink@the Quay”, “Climb@theQuay”, and so on. There are eight variations of the message, including “Cook@the Quay”, “Cycle@theQuay” and “Relax@the Quay” Work on the multi-million pound Flood...
Businesses on Exeter’s historic Quay are reminding people that the area is still open for business despite ongoing building work being carried out. Work on the multi-million pound Flood Defence Scheme has been going on at the Quay for some time now but for the shops, restaurants, bars and attractions down by the waterside it’s still business as usual. Work isn’t due to be finished until next spring. When completed the defences will offer homes and businesses in the area protection against flooding from the River Exe. The work is being carried out by the Environment Agency and is being...
