Big birthday bash for FORCE charity shop

The award-winning FORCE cancer charity shop in Heavitree celebrates its 20th birthday this week with plans in place for a two-day party. On Friday and Saturday the shop in Fore Street will have more than its usual range of bargains with lots of special offers on the theme of 20. There will be: 20 per cent off shoes and some 20p flip flops; a 20p clothes rail and 20p T-shirts; a selection of romance, thriller and mystery books at 20p; a kids clothes rail with 20p items; 20p kids goodie bags; at least 20 golden ticket items hidden around the store each day offering great knock down prices....

Stan continues to hit the right note

This year marks a significant milestone for FORCE Cancer Charity and its association with one of the most popular musical icons in the Exeter area.

The Stan Hacking Concert Band is preparing for its 15th performance in aid of the charity and has already raised more than £12,000.

They will be on stage at St Peter’s School in Quarry Lane on Sunday March 22. Tickets are available from the FORCE Cancer Support Centre in the grounds of the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital or by contacting Jackie Turner (01392 465462 or stanhackingband@hotmail.co.uk ).

Brian takes the plunge for FORCE

A former Exeter head teacher has raised more than £900 for cancer charity FORCE by taking up the challenge to swim a mile every day throughout February.

Brian Small from Newton Poppleford was among around 50 swimmers who signed on for the month-long 28 miles in 28 days campaign at LED Leisure pools in Sidmouth, Honiton, Exmouth and Yeovil.

The majority swam at Exmouth where 28 people each did their bit for the charity.

Brian is a regular at Sidmouth Swimming Pool and routinely swims more than 60 lengths of the 25 metre pool daily.

On Wednesday 11th February, Gilbert Stephens LLP is hosting another Great Devon Breakfast in aid of local cancer charity, FORCE.

This popular event, which forms part of a county-wide fundraising campaign, will be held at the City Gate Hotel on the corner of St David’s Hill and Bartholomew Street East and starts at 8am. Breakfast costs £8 and includes a choice of Eggs Benedict or Scrambled Eggs with Smoked Salmon* with tea or coffee and a glass of orange juice.

Exeter family law specialist, The Family Law Company recently presented a cheque for £1500 to FORCE Cancer Charity.

The sum was raised through various events, including a popular skittles evening that pitted teams of accountants, barristers and solicitors against each other, with Old Mill Accountants edging ahead to win on the night.

Local law firm, Gilbert Stephens LLP, is set to host another of its popular charity quizzes on Thursday 15 May at Kennaway House, Sidmouth, to raise funds for two local charities – Sidmouth Voluntary Services and FORCE Cancer Charity.

The event, organised by the law firm for the third consecutive year, starts at 7pm and hopes to attract over 70 people and raise hundreds of pounds on the night.

Held in Kennaway House’s Cellar Bar, a buffet will be included in the £30.00 team entry fee and the organisers are calling upon local people to get behind the fundraising event....

Sizzling Success for FORCE fundraiser
