Exeter Daily team launch new website dedicated to women's sport

A new website dedicated solely to women’s sport was launched today (Tuesday 14 July).

Women's Sport Daily will cover all female professional sport – from football, netball and cricket to tennis, golf and Olympic disciplines.

There will also be the chance to promote news about your school, club and local teams in a unique Community section, as well as exclusive interviews and columns from sporting stars and the people who influence how girls and women watch, play and enjoy the action.

Exeter College Coach earns international success

Exeter College Hockey Academy Coach Gus McVey has helped Zimbabwe Ladies to a bronze medal in the African Olympic Qualifying Tournament which was held in Cape Town.

Gus, 48, combines his role as Exeter College Hockey Academy Coach with being Head Coach of the Zimbabwe Ladies’ Hockey side and his developing team outperformed expectations to bag a bronze medal in the qualifying tournament held in South Africa over the summer.

Former Hockey International Emma Ross has been appointed to become the new Director of Sport at Exeter Cathedral School. Following an extensive search, Mrs Ross emerged as the stand-out candidate, and is set to join the 3-13 co-ed Prep School in January 2017.

Exeter students selected for England Hockey Squad

Two Exeter School pupils are celebrating their selection on the England Hockey squads.

Sixth Former Sophie Jefferson and Upper Fifth Former Bill Taylor have the opportunity to represent their country in the U18 and U16 squads respectively.

The two Exeter School hockey players are the latest pupils to be included in the national age group squads – six pupils have been selected over the last five years.

Blundell’s U14 hockey team have been crowned Devon champions after winning all their matches at the county championship without conceding a goal.

They follow in the footsteps of the U16 team who pulled off the same feat last month.

The U14s beat Kingsbridge, King’s Ottery, Plymouth and Shebbear to top their group, then won a hard-fought semi-final 1-0 against West Buckland School, before making sure of the victory with a convincing 3-0 win over Exeter School.

Hockey star at Exeter School

Exeter School welcomed England and GB Hockey player and Olympian, Simon Mantell on Tuesday 8 September.

Having lived in the South West for much of his school life, Simon has gone on to become one of England's greatest hockey star forwards, receiving over 50 Great Britain caps while playing in all of the major international tournaments.

Two of Exeter School’s hockey athletes have been selected to attend the National Age Group Academy in Taunton.

Lower Sixth Formers Abby Pelling and Tom Edgington will train with a group of U17 players, alongside local England U18s and U16s.

Come and join Exe Hockey Club for two days of hockey coaching on 26 and 27 August 2014.

The days will be 10am-3pm at Exmouth Community College, Exmouth.

There will be Level Two coaches and many others, coaching the two days of skills and games to suit various ages and abilities for boys and girls.
