Traditional hiring methods still favoured

Whilst nearly two in five (39%) companies plan to ramp up hiring in the second half of 2015, new research from Robert Half UK reveals that HR directors still favour traditional methods of recruitment, such as job postings or enlisting a recruitment consultancy, over referrals and word of mouth to secure the strongest candidates. Flybe opens new base at Cardiff Airport

Flybe, Europe's largest regional airline, has today announced it is to open a new base at Cardiff Airport.

The airline will serve 11 destinations in the UK and Europe this summer and base two of its existing Embraer E195 aircraft at the Airport. One of these 118-seat aircraft will arrive at Cardiff in June and the second in September 2015.

This announcement will result in the creation of 50 jobs, including flight crew and ground handling staff.

Productivity could grow faster in the countryside than urban areas over the next decade, with a rise in rural jobs, thanks to a high-tech boost from speedier broadband and better transport links, a new analysis has shown.

Unemployment in Devon continues to fall

The number of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) claimants in Devon has fallen again in November, in line with the national trend to the lowest figure on record.

Total claimants now stand at 4,019, representing 99 fewer claimants than in October (a 2.5% fall month on month).

The fall is slightly less than for the UK as a whole, which experienced a 4.7% drop between October and November. However, as a proportion of the working age population Devon’s JSA rate is far lower at 0.9% compared with the UK rate at 2.1%.
