Lidl UK has announced that its new Exeter RDC, which is due to open this November, will create up to 500 full and part-time jobs for the South West.

Recruitment has already begun as the company aims to recruit local talent for a number of different roles, including warehouse operatives and desk clerks, kitchen assistants and porters to work in the catering team, with jobs currently being advertised on the company’s careers website.

Private sector employment in the South West grew at the fastest pace in over two years in August, according to the latest Lloyds Bank Regional Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI®).

The South West PMI recorded its highest reading in four months after climbing to 54.3 in August, up from 54.0 in July. The rate of expansion was also slightly faster than the UK average (54.0). A PMI reading above 50 signifies growth in business activity.

Firms in the South West enjoyed a month of solid growth during July, with employment rising at the fastest rate in 18 months, according to the latest Lloyds Bank UK Regional PMI® survey.

The increase in job creation underlined an overall improvement in the region’s economic performance, with local firms seeing growth in new business orders and output levels.

The South West PMI rose to 54.0 in July, up from 52.6 in June. A reading greater than 50.0 signifies growth in business activity, whereas below 50 indicates a decline.

Citizens Advice Exeter welcomes Taylor Review with reservations

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice Exeter, says that the recent Matthew Taylor review of modern employment practices includes many proposals which would help people currently at the sharp end of insecure work but says that enhanced rights and protections will require more effective enforcement.

The review report was published last month.

In the last year the charity has helped people with 1,074 enquiries about issues they were having at work. The main issues being:

In the first employment survey to be published since the General Election, employers in the South West are becoming more cautious about hiring, according to ManpowerGroup, the world’s workforce experts. Equiniti expands Exeter presence with brand new SW Hub

Equiniti Group PLC, the FTSE listed FinTech and regulatory services business has opened its latest regional technology hub, Ada House, in Exeter’s Pynes Hill business park.
