Protests against playground demolition in Battersea

According to eye witness reports and local activists, police are preventing protesters from demonstrating at the adventure playground set for demolition in Battersea Park, South London.

Police are said to be denying entry to the park, meaning that people already inside the protest area are having to use bottles instead of using the toilets outside of what is effectively a kettle.

Some participants have travelled a long way to join Occupy in Battersea Park, saying it is an example of how the financial crisis impacts locally. (NewsPoint)

Blogger Ali is loving London but not the cyclists

My blog’s late and that is just one symptom of a newly acquired disease. I’ve fallen in love. With London. As you may remember from my previous blogs, I was feeling the pain of leaving Devon behind. My circumstances dictated much of the change – I needed a job, I couldn’t seem to get one in Devon – and so whilst I was excited about London, I was worried that I may not be doing the right thing. Well already my doubts have gone. It feels like having been in a rut personally for some years, I am now living again. And a lot of that is down to London. I wish I could give you some deep and...

Oh, the heartbreak and joy of moving on in life

As I told you last time, I got a job in London. And so for the last week or so I have been hurriedly packing up my Devon life and saying my goodbyes.

Two things have struck me about the packing up side: firstly how much ‘stuff’ I have accumulated over the years; and then how the most unlikely material possession can prompt such vivid memories.

Given this move is all about a new start for me, I was keen to sort my belongings and clear out the rubbish so I could start afresh. It was this desire to clear out that led me to inadvertently dumping all my jeans and trousers in a...
