The charity team at Otter Nurseries in Ottery St Mary has announced this year’s charity partnership with the Baton.

The Baton is run by Alan Rowe, well known in the area for his charity work. Alan founded the organisation to raise awareness of life in the British Armed Forces and ensure ex forces personnel are given the right support when they return to civilian life. The Baton also offers practical support to those in need, on a case by case basis.

Ribbons to remember

The annual memory tree has been put up in the plant centre at Otter Nurseries in Ottery St Mary and now needs to be decorated with plenty of colourful ribbons.

The beautiful fir tree gives families an opportunity to remember loved ones whilst raising funds for Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF), Otter Nurseries Charity of the Year.

Bake-Off Dame wows shoppers at Santa's Grotto launch

Visitors to Otter Nurseries had to look twice when they came face to face with a pantomime character that looked rather familiar.

Under the costume and make-up was none other than former Great British Bake Off contestant, Glenn Cosby.

Otter Nurseries Marketing Manager, Sabine Taylor said: “Glenn caused quite a stir in the garden centre as he chatted to families and their children.

Ottery St Mary Tea Dance for Poppy Appeal

Dance to the sounds of wartime classics at Otter Nurseries tradtional tea dance.

The ‘wartime remembrance’ tea dance will be held in the restaurant on Wednesday, November 4 from 4.30 to 7pm.

Music is being provided by Bett Parker, and the ticket price of £4.50 includes homemade refreshments for all.

All proceeds from the dance are being donated to the Poppy Appeal.

Santa’s Grotto launch open to all

The extremely popular Magical Kingdom at Otter Nurseries in Ottery St Mary is set to open this year on Saturday November 14th, and everyone’s invited.

Visitors will be able to enjoy shows from the Dartmoor Reptiles team with the opportunity to get up close not only to reptiles but also spiders and ‘mini-beasts’.

RHS awards for Cranbrook community group

Three projects to make Cranbrook a greener town were given awards of achievement by the RHS ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ campaign.

The projects ‒ a roadside verge, an area outside St Martin’s Primary School and another at the Younghayes Centre ‒ were judged ‘outstanding’, ‘improving’ and ‘thriving’ by the RHS assessor.

There’s a seasonal treat in store at the next flower arranging workshop at Otter Nurseries on July 27.

Experienced florist and arts tutor, Tracy Johnson will be showing course attendees how to create a beautiful display based on the theme ‘ Seaside Memories’, using seasonal flowers and seaside . The workshop is suitable for people with any level of flower arranging experience from beginner to advanced. It runs from 2.30 to 4.30pm and costs just £15 per person. Hospiscare to launch Great Devon Bake Off

The launch of the Hospiscare Great Devon Bake Off 2015 takes place at Otter Nurseries’ restaurant in Ottery St Mary on Wednesday 13 May from 6.30 to 8pm ‒ and everyone is welcome.

Staff at Otter Nurseries were delighted to learn that readers of Primary Times have voted the garden centre’s grotto as the best place to celebrate Christmas with Santa in Devon.

Santa's Grotto opens at Otter Nurseries

The Christmas season has started at Otter Nurseries with the opening of the ever popular Santa’s Grotto.

Visitors to the garden centre on opening day enjoyed additional family fun with free face painting, magic from George the Magician and entertaining characters from Cinderella. There was also the chance to meet donkeys from The Donkey Sanctuary.

Children took the opportunity to have an early chat with Santa and put in a hopeful word for this year’s most-wanted Christmas presents.
