Pamper evening raises £460 for bike heroes

An evening of indulgence at Otter Nurseries was held in aid of an emergency courier charity.

Around 80 guests came along to enjoy a glass of sparkling wine, three delicious mini desserts and a raft of other delights including mini massages by Butterflies Studio.

The evening was organised by the garden centre to raise funds for the Devon Freewheelers, which provides a free, out-of-hours service to the NHS delivering medical necessities including blood and tissue samples.

Otter Nurseries answers SOS from TV gardener

Otter Nurseries staff recently sprang into action after receiving an SOS phone call from Alan Titchmarsh.

The celebrity gardener was creating a garden in Bideford for his TV show, Love Your Garden and wanted to know if the East Devon garden centre had a ready supply of the specific plants needed for his garden design.

Hardy nursery worker Carla Ward-Best said: “At first we thought it was a wind up, but there’s no mistaking his voice. He was very knowledgeable about the plants he wanted, too.”

East Devon blooms at the Chelsea Flower Show

For the second year running, plants from Otter Nurseries will be entrancing visitors to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

The East Devon plant specialist is supplying all the flowers for the crowd-stopping Robert James trade display garden.

The garden, sited just outside the main flower marquee, is being created around a stunning collection of bronze sculptures and water features based on quintessentially English literary characters.

Tenants produce colourful displays - with plenty of gold

Tenants of East Devon District Council have again excelled themselves with a beautiful display of gardens large and small, leading to another highly successful garden competition, with a total of 41 entries.

This included two entrants for the Youth Garden, both of whom were Gold winners.

Kieron Bewes (Horticultural Consultant) was the judge and using the Royal Horticultural Society judging method once again, a number of entrants obtained the Gold level.
