The new year finds a new front of house manager at Ottery St Mary coffee shop, Tickety-Boo.
Popular front of house regular Cheryl Mabin moved into the role after Zoe Blackmore decided to pursue a different vocation.
Cheryl has been working at Tickety-Boo for over 16 months, almost since the coffee shop opened. Previously she worked in customer service at Tufnells, with 14 years at The Disney Store and a stint at children’s playzone Wacky Warehouse.
Cheryl said: “I’m not one for an office job, and I have loved working at Tickety-Boo since the day I started.
Almost exactly two years after he purchased the old Millstone Bakery site in Ottery St Mary’s Mill Street, Tickety-Boo owner Stuart Phillips has unveiled an exciting extension to the coffee shop’s popular play kingdom – just in time for Christmas.
The new section features a bespoke-made pirate ship complete with mast, telescopes, cabin and slide, as well as additional seating and a buggy park. It doubles the size of the Tickety-Boo play kingdom and offers improved access for customers.

Ottery St Mary coffee shop and children’s play kingdom, Tickety-Boo collected its first ever gong in the Devon Tourism Awards.
The coffee shop received a bronze award, which means it is recognised as being in the top three café/tea rooms in the county, judged on such elements as inclusivity, customer service and sustainability including local sourcing. Part of the judging process was a mystery shopper who visited earlier in the year.

Talented writers from Ottery St Mary Primary School made judging a hard task in a competition organised by local coffee shop, Tickety-Boo.
Children were asked to write a story on the theme ‘My Tickety-Tastic Summer Holidays’.
Around 30 entries were received from schoolchildren in Foundation, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Amongst the many wonderful stories were tales of pixies, kittens, dogs, a missing snow wolf and a jungle tour in Thailand.

The services offer a time and space apart to remember and honour loved ones who are no longer with us. Halloween has come early at The Volunteer Inn in Broad Street, Ottery St Mary with some mysterious shenanigans.
On two occasions candles used for the restaurant tables have relit after being extinguished the night before.
