Chief Inspector Mark Bolt has just returned from a six-week fact-finding mission to the USA.
The purpose of the trip was to see how police forces in the USA deal with individuals in mental health crisis. It was funded as a part of his Winston Churchill Fellowship for 2013.
Mark said: “This issue is high on the agenda of British policing and it is hoped that the UK can learn from our counterparts across the pond.”
Mark visited Chicago, Hartford, Arlington and Baltimore, and were specifically chosen as they have well-developed programmes dealing with those in need....
Four police dogs and their handlers are the latest highly trained officers to join Devon and Cornwall's canine unit.
The officers and their faithful companions have taken part in a passing out parade to mark the end of their training.

A ninth body has been recovered from the wreckage of the Clutha pub in Glasgow which was crashed into by a helicopter on Friday night. Police have said that they cannot rule out the possibility of more bodies being found as they continue to clear the scene. Three people on board the helicopter have died and at least six pub patrons have been confirmed as dead. A new anti-drink driving campaign for the festive period will see Devon and Cornwall Police team up with a convicted drink driver.
The 33-year-old Plymouth University student lost his licence after being caught beind the wheel while three times over the legal limit.

There are growing concerns for Stuart Glanville who has been missing for nearly two weeks.
Stuart, 50, was last seen outside of the Spar shop in Heathfield on Sunday 17 November. When he was last seen Stuart was wearing a backpack, coat and trousers. He also wears a leg brace on his right leg and walks with the aid of two crutches. Stuart is regarded as a vulnerble adult.

Police have made three further arrests in connection with the Murder of 43 year-old Stephen Crook who was killed last week (Thursday 21 November). Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police are involved in a three week operation aimed at reducing road casualties and collisions in the force area.
