Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted in Exmouth at the weekend. The alleged incident happened outside the Q Club in Manchester Street in the early hours of Sunday 10 November 2013. A man approached a 20-year-old woman from Exeter who was stood outside the nightclub and sexually assaulted her. The suspect is described as a stocky Asian man and was wearing a grey hooded top. On 24th November 1999 my stepmother gave my brother her General Power of Attorney giving him absolute power over all her finances. She did not receive separate legal advice. It was witnessed by one very elderly neighbour. On 3rd March 2000, only three months later, my stepmother gifted her luxury penthouse apartment to my brother "in consideration and recognition of financial debts incurred by my late husband". The only outstanding debt my father had when he died was to glaziers for £3422.16, which I paid.

Police officers cautioned a newsagent selling copies of the Private Eye magazine near the Old Bailey that they could be in contempt of court. A news vendor said a policeman asked him to “consider” taking down issues of the satirical magazine due to the proximity to the phone hacking hearings of Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson. The issue which has a picture of Ms Brooks with the caption horror witch costume withdrawn from shops was shown to the jury and said to be a ‘joke in exceptionally bad taste’ by Mr Justice Saunders, presiding judge on the phone hacking case. Update 24 October: Police report that Exeter man Robert Salter, who was last seen at around 1pm on Friday 11 October, is still missing. He is also known to have links in the Exmouth area. If you have seen him, please get in touch with the Police on 101 and quote log 267 of 11 October.

M5 closed between Burnham and Bridgwater following collisions (Somerset)

Update 2.30pm: On the M5 southbound in Somerset there are currently long delays between junctions J21 and J23 due to an earlier incident. All lanes are now open.

Lane 3 remains closed northbound for emergency repairs after the incident.

Update 12.30pm: The M5 Southbound carriageway remains closed between J22 and J23 following earlier collisions, causing delays of approximately two hours between junctions J21 and J22. The road is expected to re-open from 2.30pm. Northbound between J22 and J23, only one lane remains closed, however taffic is still very slow-moving.

Last chance to apply for grant to help reduce crime

Community groups in Devon and Cornwall have got just over a week to apply for a share in a £200,000 cashpot. Applications for the first round of the small grants scheme, which aims to help small community groups which work to reduce crime and make people feel safer, must be submitted by 31 October. 22 October: Police need help in identifying a man and woman following a theft from a supermarket in Newton Abbot.

On 6 October 2013 shortly before 3.30pm a customer requested £50 cash back from one of the self service checkouts at the Asda store in Highweek Street.

The customer picked up his shopping and walked away forgetting the cash. When he returned shortly afterwards the cash had been taken.

Woman stabbed in city centre attack

Police have arrested a man after a serious assault on a woman in Exeter this morning (21 October).

Police were alerted just before 10.55am after a woman was stabbed in the Bartholomew Cemetery in Bonhay Road, Exeter.

The police helicopter assisted with the search for the suspect and he was found by officers shortly after.

The 49-year-old man from Exeter was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and was taken into police custody. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

Police events in Exeter to crackdown on cycle theft

Cyclists have the chance to find out more about bike security at two police events in Exeter. Local officers are holding two bike marking events to encourage cyclists to mark, register and lock their bikes. They take place at:

  • Exeter Flowerpots Skatepark on Saturday 19 October 2013 between 2pm and 4pm.
  • Waitrose car park, Gladstone Road, Exeter on Thursday 24 October 2013 between 3pm and 5pm.
