Toby Buckland’s Garden Festival returns

Toby Buckland, horticulturalist, writer and TV presenter has announced the date for his 2016 garden festival at Powderham Castle.

The festival will run over two days, Friday and Saturday 29 and 30 April, from 10am-5pm.

Toby's festivals bring together gardening enthusiasts and specialist growers who share their considerable knowledge in a festive, friendly and inclusive atmosphere.

In the space of less than two years Toby has created two unique festivals that are now firm fixtures in the annual British gardening calendar.

Building on the growing success of Powderham Food Festival, which first launched in 2012 and draws food-lovers from across the region, this year’s event promises to be even bigger and better than ever. The popular date in Devon’s culinary calendar has doubled its appeal for 2015, as it is due to take place over two days from 3rd to 4th October – perfect timing as it marks the end of British Food Fortnight.

Earl of Devon, Hugh Courtenay, dies

Hugh Courtenay, the 18th Earl of Devon, has died at the age of 73.

The Courtenay family said in a statement: “Hugh Rupert Courtenay, Earl of Devon, died peacefully on 18 August.

“Adored husband of Diana and father of Rebecca, Nell, Camilla and Charles, and beloved 'Grumpy' to eleven grandchildren.

“He enjoyed a life devoted to family, friends, Powderham Estate and Devon.”

A private funeral will be held, followed later by a thanksgiving services, the details of which are to be announced.

The family have asked for donations to St Clement’s Church,...

Shakespeare: As You Like It
