The RD&E is encouraging some of its inpatients to keep active in hospital and swap their PJs for everyday clothes as part of a new campaign to promote their independence.

The ‘Your Road to Wellbeing’ campaign will encourage patients to stay physically and mentally strong during short stays in hospital so they’re in the best possible shape to complete their recovery at home after they leave.

A multi-trade craftsman at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital has raised hundreds of pounds for local charities thanks to his unusual sci-fi hobby.

Dedicated Doctor Who fan Ronald Munns, from the hospital’s Estates Department, has been building incredibly realistic Daleks in his shed at home in Pathfinder Village. He initially started building the Daleks for fun in his spare time using scraps of wood and leftover materials, however soon realised they could have a more charitable purpose.

RD&E to benefit from £41,000 funding boost for maternity safety training

Maternity staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust are set to benefit from a £41,000 funding boost which will enable the Trust to deliver further training to improve maternity safety.

The RD&E has received a share of over £8m through Health Education England’s (HEE) Maternity Safety Training Fund, which is being distributed to all NHS Trusts in England on behalf of the Department of Health.

South West ambulance paramedic Jonathan Green had his hard work and success at creating new opportunities for patients to take part in health research recognised with a regional award.

The National Institute for Health Research Clinical Research Network (CRN) for the South West Peninsula judged Jonathan to be the worthy winner of its Research Network Forum award for creating new research participation opportunities.

The work of Apprentices employed at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust is being celebrated during National Apprenticeship Week 2017 (6th – 10th March).

Apprenticeships play a vital role in helping young people to get a foot on the career ladder and enable employers to develop a skilled workforce for the future. Family donate photography equipment to RD&E labour ward

Parents Claire and Mark Rider have donated photography equipment to the labour ward at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to help families capture precious memories if their baby is born sleeping.

The couple founded the charity Ayrton’s Dream in memory of their son Aryton who they lost in May 2013. The charity aims to support families who suffer a similar bereavement on the Labour Ward at the RD&E and have recently funded the refurbishment of the Heartsease Room, a place set aside for parents who have a still born child.

Four members of staff from the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital are preparing to cycle 93miles to help improve the experience for families and babies who visit their Ante/Postnatal Ward.

On the 5th and 6th September Charlotte Kilvington, Hannah Manaton, Trish Heale and Helen Russell, who all work in the Centre for Women’s Health, will take part in the Royal Berkshire Hospital’s ‘Pass the Pinard’ charity challenge.

The contribution made by an army of volunteers at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital has been celebrated during national Volunteers Week (1st-12th June).

The annual celebration, which is organised by NCVO, celebrates the vital contribution volunteers make to our communities every day.

RD&E’s emergency services facing unprecedented rise in attendance

The RD&E’s Emergency Department and Medical Triage Unit are under severe strain with record levels of people seeking urgent medical attention.

On Tuesday this week (31st May) 391 people attended the Trust – the highest number ever recorded. Attendance in A&E is up year on year by 11% compared to last May placing unprecedented pressure on emergency services.

With record levels of people coming to the A&E department at the RD&E, the public are being asked by doctors to use emergency services only when absolutely necessary.

RD&E replace stolen nursing medal for crime victim Doris

A former Nursing Sister who trained at the Royal Devon and Exeter hospital during the Second World War has received a replica of a gold nursing medal which was tragically stolen from her during a burglary.

Eighty-nine year old Doris Sumption, from Spetisbury in Dorset, was devastated when her home was burgled three years ago and thieves took one of her most treasured possessions – a gold medal which she received for being top of her class during her nurse training at the RD&E in 1946.
