Exeter City’s friendly against Cardiff City, at 7.30 this evening, will be unaffected by the fire at St Sidwell Street, Exeter.

In a statement, Exeter City FC said: “We are keeping up to date with police regarding road closures and traffic information and should have more information for supporters early this afternoon.

“However, there are plenty of alternative routes to St James Park should the roundabout off of St Sidwell Street still be closed this evening.

Road closures remained in place today folllowing a serious fire in Exeter city centre.

Police say traffic disruption could last up to another 24 hours.

Fifteen appliances from across Devon, including one from Somerset, were called to the Richer Sounds in Sidwell Street at around 1.45pm yesterday, after smoke was reported to be billowing from the store.

The building was extensively damaged and needs to be made safe.

Western Way and most approaches to St Anne's roundabout remain closed.

Old Tiverton Road and Blackboy Road junctions have reopened....

Dozens of fire crews have been fighting a blaze in Exeter city centre this afternoon.

Fifteen appliances from across Devon, including one from Somerset, were called to the Richer Sounds in Sidwell Street at around 1.45, after smoke was reported to be billowing from the store.

Dozens of firefighters were called to a blaze in Exeter city centre this afternoon (Wednesday 27 July).

They were alerted after smoke was seen billowing from Richer Sounds Hi-fi shop in Sidwell Street at 1.45pm.

The fire is believed to have broken out in the basement of the property.

Police release CCTV images following Exeter assault

Police have released CCTV images following an assault in Exeter which left a man with a serious head injury.

Around 2am on Sunday 5th June an assault took place on Summerland Street, near the junction of Sidwell Street.

An 18 year-old-man from Kent suffered a serious head injury and remains in hospital undergoing treatment.

The police are keen to speak to the three men pictured in connection with the assault.

The first man is described as a white man, of thin build, around 6 foot in height and aged in his 20’s. He has dark coloured hair, and a short beard....

Police are appealing for witnesses following an unprovoked assault in Sidwell Street, Exeter.

At around 9.55pm on Wednesday 1st June, a 36-year-old local man was walking past the Monkey Suit pub on Sidwell Street when a man ran past him, punching him to the left side of his face.

The victim did not require medical treatment but was shaken by the incident.

The suspect is described as a white male, 5’10 in height with a stocky build and short mousy brown coloured hair.

Police are seeking witnesses after two women were racially abused in Sidwell Street, Exeter on Saturday 28th May at around 6.15pm.

The women were walked passed a man in the street who then subjected them to verbal abuse using racist language - Both women were left shaken and distressed by the incident.

Police are keen to identify a woman after a designer handbag was stolen from a charity shop in Exeter city centre.

The Mulberry bag was stolen from the WESC charity shop in Sidwell Street on Tuesday 12th January at around 1pm.

Officers are keen to speak to the woman pictured, who has a distinctive mole on her left cheek, as she may be able to assist with enquiries.
