High flying Exeter legal eagles promoted

One of Devon’s leading law firms is promoting high flying staff at its office in Exeter. Stephens Scown LLP has made six promotions to partner and associate level.

Three associates have been promoted to partner level, bringing the total number of partners in the firm to 48. The newly promoted partners are all specialists from Stephen Scown’s corporate department in Exeter. They are: Laura McFadyen, an associate in the employment team; Andrew Knox, an associate specialising in insolvency; and Ben Travers, head of the firm’s intellectual property and IT team.

Business owners and managers struggling to keep on top of the changes to employment law are being urged to attend a seminar being organised by a leading local law firm.

Pensions wake up call for divorcees

Following a new report exposing the under-use of pension sharing orders in divorces, one of the country’s top family lawyers has issued a warning that divorcees could be missing out on money they are entitled to from their partner’s pension. The new figures show that in 86 per cent of divorces, no pension sharing takes place. This is set to become even more significant given the wholesale pension reform proposed in the Budget.

Celebrating 60 years at Stephens Scown

A former senior partner of leading South West lawyers, Stephens Scown LLP, recently celebrated 60 years of legal expertise with the firm.

Ian Waite, 83, has spent his entire legal career with the firm and helped it become the success it is today within the region and beyond.

Help for Heroes is set to benefit from £2,456 raised by local legal firm Stephens Scown following fundraising over the last 12 months.

Fundraising events included cake bake sales, dress down days, quiz nights and a Wimbledon themed night. Robert Camp, Managing Partner of Stephens Scown, said: “Help for Heroes is our firm-wide charity which staff voted for and which we have been supporting for the last few years.
