Two Supreme Court rulings on the 14th October have reiterated the need for full and frank disclosure of financial circumstances and assets in divorce cases, a leading South West law firm says. The two cases concerned women who said that their husbands had not revealed the full extent of their financial assets when their original divorce cases were settled. Both cases are now likely to return to the High Court. Warning to landlords over immigration checks

Landlords in Devon will need to carry out thorough immigration status checks on their prospective tenants before granting tenancies in the future – or face stiff penalties including the possibility of imprisonment, warns leading law firm Stephens Scown LLP.

The government is expected to include a new penalty of up to five years in prison for landlords who fail to carry out the necessary ‘right to rent’ checks on their tenants, while a fine of up to £3,000 per tenant is also possible. The changes are likely to be included in the Immigration Bill this autumn.

An innovative start up company that has developed an app to help schools find supply teachers has secured £100,000 of investor funding, with South West law firm Stephens Scown advising on the deal.

Supply Clouds Development, which has already been valued at £1 million, was looking for investment to help it grow further and market its cloud-based solution which links schools, job agencies and supply teachers with an effective communication tool.
