You don’t have to be the most well-informed person in the world to know that spending time outside is good for us. Fresh air, exercise, absorbing that all-important vitamin D naturally; take your pick of the benefits. But is there more to simply wandering around in nature than we realise? Free workshops and check-ins on offer to boost Devon’s wellbeing

Independent charity Devon Communities Together (DCT) has launched a new wellbeing programme, Wellbeing Works, to support people and businesses in Devon to prioritise their wellbeing and resilience as we continue to recover from the pandemic.

People can access free 1-2-1 wellbeing check-ins with trained volunteers or join one of a series of online workshops designed to share tools and techniques for better wellbeing. Around 18% of UK based runners run for mental health benefits above all else, according to a new study revealed by Runners Need , with 26% of Brits running to maintain a healthy weight.

Scientists shed new light on processes that help the body combat stress

Scientists have developed a pioneering new approach to reveal how the body releases hormones in order to combat stress.

A team of researchers has uncovered the regulatory processes which govern how glucocorticoids – steroid hormones with powerful anti-inflammatory effects – are released into the body.

Link between blood pressure and teen stress

A new study from the online journal Heart suggests a link between the tendency to become easily stressed in adolescents and a heightened risk of developing high blood pressure in later life.

The research looked at more than 1.5 million 18-year-old men with normal blood pressure, who had been conscripted to the army in Sweden between 1969 and 1997 until the end of 2012 and were assessed for their levels of stress resilience.

At the end of the study, those who were more prone to stress a at the age of 18 were associated with a heightened risk of high blood pressure.
