The quiet parkland estate of Escot is coming alive this week, taken over by hundreds of young people who are coming to Devon to share a week of entertainment, education and new experiences.
The event has been organised by the Woodcraft Folk, an international youth movement that promotes friendship, equality and cooperation. The camp, which takes place between 24 and 31 July is designed for, and run by the young people involved who are all aged between 16 and 20. This age group in the Woodcraft Folk are called District Fellows (DF’s).
Exeter College is celebrating being top of the world again, with two of its International Baccalaureate students achieving top spots of an outstanding 44 points out of a possible 45 in the international qualification results.
The two were amongst the highly successful 37 students completing their two-year diploma this year who achieved average points of 34.2 out of a possible 45. Six of the elite group scored over 40 points with many gaining top marks in their individual subjects, with 30 top scores of grade 7, putting them in the top 10% worldwide.
On Saturday 15 June, Bicton College opens its doors to the public for its annual Country Fair. Live music and various animal shows will take place throughout the day alongside the many local businesses and stallholders, showcasing Devon’s finest food produce, crafts and activities. Current students will also be demonstrating their knowledge in each course area, giving the public a chance to really understand (and try for themselves!) what Bicton College is all about. Students from the University of Exeter have plans to set up a fundraising branch on campus for their local lifeboat station. In addition, two other groups from the University already have events planned at the end of March specifically to support the launch and recovery vehicle appeal at Exmouth RNLI.

Szczepan Majcherczyk, who lives on Powderham Crescent, faces jail after pleading guilty to five charges in front of city magistrates, including three sexual assaults and two public order offences.
